Jack Blackwood Obituary

Jack Thomas Blackwood, age 86, formerly of Moncks Corner, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning at a local hospice facility. Born on March 16, 1939, in Barnwell, South Carolina, Jack was the cherished son of Maner Pearlstine "Pearl" Blackwood, Sr. and Rosa Lee Morris Blackwood.

A devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 30 years, Jack served faithfully as a deacon and touched many lives in his community. He enjoyed a long career at the Paper Mill before retiring, and also owned and operated Whitesville Lawn and Garden. Jack was well known for his love of selling firewood, repairing lawnmowers, and especially for being "The Watermelon Man"-famous for selling the best watermelons in the area. In his leisure time, he found joy on the golf course.

Jack is survived by his sons, James Calvin Blackwood (Donna) and Marty Grooms; his daughters, Brenda Grooms, Shirley Dangerfield, and Theresa Clark; his brother, Rubin Blackwood of Barnwell; thirty grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elvenia "Penny" Grooms Blackwood; his grandson, Jamie Blackwood; and brothers Lawrence Edward Blackwood and Maner Pearlstine "Buddy" Blackwood, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the hour of service on Saturday.
