Hugh Preacher Obituary

Hugh Preacher JACKSONVILLE, FL - Hugh Wyman Preacher, 89, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on June 24, 1936, in Augusta, Georgia, Hugh lived a life marked by deep faith, unwavering dedication to service, and a profound love for his family and community. Hugh spent his early years in Brunson, South Carolina, where he attended local schools before graduating with honors from Newberry College in South Carolina. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry. Over the years, Hugh worked with distinction for William H. Rorer, Rhone-Poulenc SA, and Sanofi Aventis. His exceptional performance earned him the prestigious Presidential Award for outstanding sales records, along with numerous other accolades recognizing his excellence in business and sales. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Hugh proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard. His commitment to service extended far beyond the military; it was a guiding principle throughout his life. A man of deep Christian faith, Hugh grew up attending Brunson Baptist Church and remained actively involved in Christian ministries throughout his school and college years. He was a devoted member of Summerville Baptist Church in South Carolina, where he served faithfully as a Deacon and Chairman of the Deacons for many years. He also found great purpose in serving on the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Team, offering help and hope to those affected by crises. Later in life, Hugh worshipped at Buladean Presbyterian Church in North Carolina and Deermeadows Baptist Church in Florida. His love for Jesus Christ was evident in every aspect of his life - he lived each day as a humble servant to Christ, embodying grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. Hugh's gentle nature and infectious smile made everyone feel welcome and at ease. His wit and charm brought joy to those around him, while his steadfast support and encouragement made him a cherished role model to family and friends alike. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and lived with a sparkle in his eye that reflected the warmth of his spirit. He is survived by his loving children: son, James Preacher (Debra) of Lutz, Florida; daughter, Lynn Yeager (Tim) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; grandsons, Jacob Yeager and Jackson Preacher; sister, L. Caroline Krueger of Rock Hill, South Carolina; brother, Thomas Preacher (Sherrie) of Bamberg, South Carolina; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Wyman and Hugh Esther Preacher and his beloved wife, Brenda Hunt Preacher. One of Hugh's most meaningful contributions later in life was his unwavering support for BiG North Florida - a God-centered vocational community created by his daughter and family to provide meaningful work and a sense of belonging for adults with disabilities. Hugh's love for this mission reflected his lifelong commitment to uplifting others with dignity and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to BiG North Florida at www.bignorthflorida.org or mailed to 236 N Roscoe Blvd, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082. May Hugh Wyman Preacher's legacy of faithfulness, humility, and love continue to inspire all who knew him. Hugh was a man filled with joy and he brightened our corner of the earth in beautiful ways. We always enjoyed his visits to our exercise room and for lunches here at the senior center. He will be long remembered as a friend. He loved our mountain...as do I.

Hugh (my Forest Gump), you will be missed. Meeting you on our shared FL condo bench and discovering both our summer mountain homes in Mitchell County, NC shared the peaceful healing lifestyles we needed and enjoying many discussions of our concerns about love for our families, grief, and faith. The mountains are calling you home for your final rest Hugh, The Roan is calling...

Deepest condolences to all who knew and loved this amazing servant of God! He was an inspiration to those who knew him and to those whose lives he impacted through his selfless acts of compassion. May his name be honored in the halls of the Almighty, and may peace and understanding come to those he loved but had to leave behind.
