Helen E. Slack
Daniel Island - Helen E. Slack, of Daniel Island, SC, passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2026, at the remarkable age of 103. Born on April 30, 1922, in Buffalo, NY, Helen lived a long and fulfilling life surrounded by friends and family.
A devoted woman of faith, Helen was an active member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, where she served in various capacities over the years. She earned a teaching degree, which allowed her to work as a substitute teacher and travel extensively abroad with her late husband, Lenny. Helen's generosity and dedication left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Humberto Sr. and Josephine DeRosa; her husband, Lenny; her brother, Humberto Jr., and his wife Ann; her favorite niece, Dr. Mary Catherine Hanrahan, and her husband Paul; as well as other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also cherished as a "bonus mom" by her dear friends Candy and Billy Veno of Hanahan, SC.
Helen had an immeasurable love for dogs, particularly her West Highland Terriers (Kilties). She was a generous supporter of animal welfare organizations, especially the ASPCA. Her kindness to others, steadfast faith, and selflessness are the enduring hallmarks of her legacy.
A private burial will be held at Carolina Memorial Park at a later date. May Helen's memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate to know her.
