HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC. Harriet was born December 28, 1938, in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late John Frampton Maybank and Lavinia Ingelsby Huguenin Maybank. She attended Charleston Day School, graduated from Ashley Hall, and then enrolled in the Villa Mercede School in Florence, Italy, where she studied abroad for one year. Upon returning to Charleston, Harriet volunteered for Historic Charleston Foundation conducting tours during the Festival of Houses and Gardens. She was an active Sunday school teacher and volunteer at St. Philip's Church. Harriet married "Heno" and moved to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina, where she nurtured and provided guidance for thousands of young men. While she was on campus she was also an active volunteer in the Asheville community. She was a member of the French Broad River Garden Club and worked with women in the community on mountain crafts. Harriet spread her inimitable joy, love and guidance to young people when Harriet and Heno led Sewanee Academy and continued her impact in the mountain community. She was a member of the Fortnightly Club and active with Otey Parish and her childrens' lives. Harriet and Heno returned to Charleston in 1987, and she immersed herself in her hometown community working for the Historic Charleston Foundation at the Aiken Rhett House which was her true passion and love. She also enjoyed her time over the years at Stoll's Alley, Porgy and Bess and the Boutique where she loved her interactions with visitors and all Charlestonians. Harriet was a member of the Ivy Garden Club, the Lowcountry Garden Club and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of South Carolina. Her greatest joy was sharing her love of Charleston, its history and traditions with all whom she came into contact. Harriet had an insatiable love of people which was infectious. Her impact to the city and generations of people is immeasurable. I knew Harriett as a fellow faculty wife at Christ School Our husbands were students at Christ School in the '40's during the 2nd War. We returned to CS in the '60s-'70s and renewed our friendship at that time. My husband was the chaplain and taught the religion classes. You may remember our son Peter who would be a contemporary of yours. He lives in Troy, N.C. Tom is a clergyman here in Winter Haven. Chris is in France where he writes/teaches. Mark is a priest at St. Matthew's Wheeling,W. Va. Peter is a banker in N.C.

My thoughts go out to you at this time. We lost Tom, Sr. in January of this year.

I am so sorry to hear of Ms Harriet's passing. She was such a wonderful woman, and quite the strong personality. I am blessed to have known her and your family during the short time I took care of her. Keeping all of you in my thoughts and prayers.

What a sweet, sweet person. She always had a smile and greeting for you when she saw you. She was the highlight of my day when I worked for UPS and came in the store to deliver packages. She will be missed by all who knew her. I hope the family will find peace in the lord during this time.
