Gordon Lindsay Luke, Jr. Obituary

Gordon Lindsay Luke, Jr.

Summerville - Gordon Lindsay Luke, Jr. died peacefully on February 22, 2026, at The Presbyterian Village in Summerville. He was born in Charleston, SC on May 3rd, 1938, to Gordon Lindsay Luke, Sr. and Elizabeth Agnew Luke.

Lindsay grew up in Summerville and later attended Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia and Milton College in Wisconsin. After graduation, Lindsay returned to Summerville where he worked for 60 years in the industrial supply business.

A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, Lindsay's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a familiar face in the pews and pulpit alike, serving as a lay reader, lending his voice to the choir, and guiding the next generation through confirmation classes. Beyond the church walls, Lindsay dedicated years to the Kairos prison ministry, sharing hope with those who needed it most. He was famously friendly – partly because he was never without his name tag, but mostly because he never met a stranger.

A dedicated community member, Lindsay shared his love for music as a long-time member of the Summerville Singers. He was also a loyal and active Rotarian, giving his time and leadership as both President and Vice President. Known for his generous spirit, he was a faithful donor to the Red Cross, donating over 20 gallons of life-giving blood!

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Cantey Luke (Betsy) of 60 years, two sons, Gordon Lindsay Luke, III, (Bridget) of Charleston and Samuel Cantey Luke (Crystal) of Summerville, and four grandchildren: Gracyn Lindsay Luke, Samuel Cantey Luke, Jr., Robert MacLain Luke, and Jaxon Spencer Luke. Lindsay is also survived by his sister, Melinda Luke and her son Adam Luke (Jessica).

In addition to his parents, Lindsay is predeceased by his sisters, Mary Luke Chapman, Hessie Luke, and Nancy Luke.

A funeral service will be held Saturday the 28th at 10 am by The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at their interim location at St. Luke's Historic Chapel, 208 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC.

Memorials may be sent to The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 808 North Cedar Street, Summerville, SC 29403.

Dear Betsy, our heartfelt prayers and blessings are graciously offered to you and the entire Luke family on the "home going" of such a wonderful husband, father and friend. A kinder, humble and more generous man I never met. He loved us all unconditionally, and always looked at the positive side of life. The love of Christ shined through him. He was one of Summerville's finest, and he will be missed, but is now home with the Lord. Love to all
