George Burgess Obituary

BURGESS, George LAKE CITY - Mr. George Bobby Burgess, 68, died Monday, September 25, 2006, after an illness. Mr. Burgess was born in Williamsburg County, a son of the late W.E. "Genie" Burgess, Sr., and Allie Epps Burgess. He was a graduate of Kingstree High School and Florence-Darlington Technical College. Mr. Burgess retired from Farmers Telephone Company, was a member of the South Carolina National Guard, and a past-president of the Lake City Lions Club. He was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church, received the Baptist Man of the Year award, and was a Sunday school teacher. Survivors include: his wife, Jean Langston Burgess of Lake City; one daughter, Pamela B. Blackwell (Merle) of Lexington; one step-daughter, Beth P. Rogers (Spencer) of Lake City; one step-son, Ray Phelps of Lake City; four grandsons, Caleb Blackwell of Lexington, Matthew Blackwell of Lexington, Wayne Rogers of Lake City, John Rogers of Lake City; one granddaughter, Eliza Blackwell of Lexington; one brother, Charles S. Burgess (Betty) of Kingstree; two sisters, Janie Mae Burgess Johnson of Georgetown, and Virge Brugess Harrington of Georgetown. Mr. Burgess is preceded in death by one brother, W.E. Burgess, Jr. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, September 26, 2006, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, 2006, in Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Lake City Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to: Calvary Baptist Church Youth Fund, care-of Calvary Baptist Church, 320 Carlyle Street, Lake City, South Carolina 29560. BROCKINGTON FUNERAL HOME, Lake City, is in charge. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of Mr Bobby. He was a dear sweet man. He helped me many times with my computer problems. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Keep your memories close they will be of great comfort to you in the days ahead. This I know from personal experience. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
