Fran Lempesis Obituary

LEMPESIS, Fran Entered into eternal rest on the morning of November 18, 2008, Fannye Fran Billias Lempesis, widow of Peter W. Lempesis. Residence, Charleston, SC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Saturday, November 22, 2008 at twelve noon. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Friday between four-thirty and seven-thirty o'clock with a Trisagion service at seven o'clock. Mrs. Lempesis, daughter of George M. Billias and Diana Lasker Billias, was born June 11, 1917 in Charleston, SC, and later moved to Daytona Beach, FL, where she was crowned Miss Florida. She married Peter W. Lempesis and they resided in Charleston after World War II. The owner and operator of the Royal Cleaners, she was a woman of many talents, a homemaker, and a tireless contributor to her Church and its youth group. Mrs. Lempesis was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, past President of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Daughters of Penelope. She is best remembered for her wonderful cooking and delicious Greek pastries. The recipes she created for Charleston's Popular Greek Recipes are favored by many. Her Sunday dinners were enjoyed not only by family and friends, but also by anyone in need of a home cooked meal and a warm environment. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter, Diana Lempesis Armenakis and her husband James of New York, NY; her son, William P. Billy Lempesis and his wife Bobbi Conner of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her daughter, Sunday Lempesis and her husband Charles D. Donny Schaeffer, Jr. of Charleston, SC; her sister, Sylvia Billias Pappas of St. Augustine, FL, two sisters-in-law, Katina Lempesis and Ann Lempesis of Charleston, SC; her grandchildren: Peter Lempesis, Cassidy and Livy Conner, Remy, Alex and Dax Armenakis, and Kyra and Chase Schaeffer; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and koumbari who were a very special part of her life. She was predeceased by her brother Michael Billias. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Peter W. Lempesis Scholarship Fund, sponsored by the Brigadier Club of The Citadel, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or the Greek Orthodox Church of The Holy Trinity, 30 Race Street, Charleston, SC 29403. Aunt Fran,
Who will go with me now to IHOP for french toast with cream cheese?

I only put one cigarette in your coffin, but please don't tell Sunday and Diana ok?

I will miss your quick wit and you always saying what's on your mind.

Rest in peace Aunt Fran.

Love,
Karen

I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of when Sunday and I were young girls. I remember watching Dark Shadows on many afternoons while eating your Mom's wonderful pastries.

Life won't be the same without you, Mom. You were always ready to do anything; take a trip to New York, go to dinner or a party. You actually enjoyed helping me wash and fold clothes. I am truly going to miss our friendship and love, which is very special and unconditional. I will always love you and miss you every day. I will keep your memory alive. Thank you for being a wonderful Mother. Rest peacefully and watch over us.
