Ann Lempesis Obituary

Ann Lempesis CHARLESTON - Ann Dana Pillas Lempesis, 96, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of J.Louis Lempesis, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 15th 2024. Her funeral service will be held Monday, June 24th, at J.Henry Stuhr Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun St., at 12:00PM. The family will receive friends Monday one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Ann was born September 22, 1927, in Sumter, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Dan Peter Pillas and Georgia Angelokis Pillas. She graduated from Edmonds High School in Sumter (class of 1944) and attended Furman University in Greenville. Ann then returned to Sumter and worked at her father's restaurant- The Stadium Steakhouse which was located in Columbia. After marriage, Ann moved to the Isle of Palms where she and Louis spent seven happy years. In later years, she managed Louis' law practice and for over 30 years, she dedicated much of her time to the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center giving advice and support to young pregnant women. She was known for her incredible fashion sense, and still wore her vintage treasures in her later years. She loved a lively debate and kept her family on their toes. Ann was predeceased by a brother, Peter Dan Pillas; and three sisters, Marie Constatine, Jean Noulles, and Theodora Pillas Nicholas. She is survived by her son, Basil Louis Lempesis; granddaughter, Dana Rion Lempesis; and daughters-in-law, Laurie Miller Lempesis and Rachel Rion Moran. Also surviving her are many nieces and nephews that she loved and who gave her so much support and assistance; especially in her later years when she really needed them. Flowers are appreciated. Memorials can be made to the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center, 7481 Northside Dr., North Charleston, SC 29420 as well as Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Rd., N. Charleston, SC 29406. I remember Aunt Ann as a lovely and gracious woman. So gracious and welcoming was she that many of us who weren´t even in the family called her Aunt Ann. Condolences and love for her family and friends.

Dear Basil and family,
Ann was truly one of the most extraordinary women that I've ever known! She was Godly, strong, elegant, intelligent, feisty, loving and caring. My husband, Gray and I first met Ann and Louis about 30 years ago. She was a true blessing to us. Her passion for and dedication to helping and loving pregnant women through The Lowcountry Pregnancy Center was unmatched. In her later years when she needed the assistance of a cane, she did not want to use one. My father-in-law custom made one for her which she proudly used for years. She will truly be missed. I know she was greeted in Heaven with "well done my good and faithful servant!"!
This picture is of Ann in 2017 receiving recognition for her decades of service to The Lowcountry Pregnancy Center.
