Eva Nicholson Obituary


NICHOLSON, Eva EVANS, GA. - Mrs. Eva Contantine Nicholson of Augusta, beloved wife of the late George C. Nicholson entered into rest on Monday, January 30, 2006, at Brandon Wilde. She was born March 18, 1914, in Savannah, Georgia, the oldest of four daughters of Sam Constantine and Jacqueline Vescopoli Constantine. Mrs. Nicholson attended schools in Savannah and graduated from Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, in 1935, where she excelled in languages, namely French and Latin. In her senior year, she was elected to May Court which was an honor for both achievement and beauty. Upon graduation she taught languages at Savannah schools and also coached a girl's church league basketball team, becoming city champions. Upon her marriage on February 2, 1938, she joined her husband in Augusta where she was an active member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She served in many capacities at the church including fund raising, longtime choir director and member of the Greek Ladies' Philoptochos Society. She also served as a radio executive of several stations co-owned by her husband and was named in Outstanding Women in Business. She will be most remembered as a devoted wife, loving and caring mother and for her immense pride and support for her Greek heritage. Mrs. Nicholson is survived by two daughters: Elaine Nicholson Paul and husband Mike of Augusta, Jacqueline Nicholson Swain and husband Mickey of Charleston, SC; two sons, Christopher G. Nicholson and wife Cecelia Toole of Augusta; Sam G. Nicholson of wife Susan of Augusta; and sister Penelope Constantine at Brandon Wilde in Augusta. Also surviving are five grandchildren, George Nicholson, Jimmy Nicholson of Augusta, Katie Nicholson Wynn and husband Rob of Honolulu, HI, Sam Nicholson and Jane Nicholson of Augusta. Sisters Marie Constantine and Pauline Constantine both of Savannah predeceased Mrs. Nicholson. The family also wishes to acknowledge and thank her devoted caregiver of many years, Ruby Tutt. Pallbearers will be Charles N. Ballas, Jr., John Dalis, Robert Heos, Chris Daglis, Manny Dalis, Danny Shehan. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2006, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 953 Telfair Street. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Trisagion service will follow the visitation at 7 p.m., at Platt's Crawford Ave. Chapel.
