Eugene Lesesne Obituary

Eugene Frost Lesesne MT. PLEASANT - Eugene Frost Lesesne, 84, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Anne Johnson Lesesne. His private funeral service will be held Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 1PM in St. Philips Church, 142 Church St. The event will be livestreamed onhttps://youtu.be/UUEWv11PeTw. Gene was born on January 5, 1937 in Florence, SC, a son of the late Thomas Petigru and Emma Larsen Lesesne. He graduated from Dreher High School and attended The Citadel, class of 1959. Gene was a Naval flight instructor and a member of the Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He flew commercially for Pan AM, traveling the world. He returned to The Citadel in 1969, teaching and coaching, serving as director of intramural athletics until his retirement. Gene was a faithful volunteer, donating thousands of hours to Water Missions and St. Philips Church. He traveled to multiple countries on mission trips with the church, and on humanitarian trips with Water Missions. Gene was an avid cyclist, logging hundreds of miles per year until his passing. He loved cooking and could often be found in the kitchen at St. Philips, volunteering his talents. One of his greatest passions was donating blood to the Red Cross, along with his family. He had donated over 125 pints in his lifetime. Gene possessed a unique ability to fix almost anything, and loved to help friends, family and those in need. Gene will be deeply missed by his loving daughters, Angela Clark (Joey) and Jessica Martin (Jeff), grandchildren, Larsen Spinelli (Zack), Kristin Clark, Sara Beth Clark, Rachael Hurst (Michael), Corey Martin, 3 great- grandchildren, brother, Henry Deas Lesesne (Linda), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and the many lives he touched as a volunteer. Gene was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P. Lesesne III. The family encourages donations to Water Missions in lieu of flowers. I was fortunate to be a colleague of Gene's at The Citadel. Gene replaced me when I took a sabbatical for my doctorate and then he became a permanent part of our faculty. The regular comment about his ability and willingness to fix anything rang true in his service through the Department of Health and Physical Education. He was on staff when desk top computers arrived at The Citadel, while most of us were reluctant to experiment, Gene took his apart. He created a cascade system to facilitate filling our SCUBA tanks, he became familiar with
a quite complex filtration and chemical treatment system for our new pool. Gene volunteered to coach Crew when no one else knew anything about the new sport. Gene loved his family and took such care of Anne when her arthritis became so debilitating. His cooking and sewing skills were legend. Gene had a lifelong intellectual curiosity, a much prized commodity on a campus of higher learning. Gene's quiet, humble demeanor was a
genuine part of his personality. I was fortunate to interact with so many people of high character in my 30
years at The Citadel, but I can say without pause or reservation that Gene Lesesne was among the very finest
of those great people. I am certain that he is reunited with Anne and at the right of God. Thank you Lord for sharing him with us.

We will always love and remember all the wonderful times we spent with Gene and his willingness to help anyone in need. He loved to cook, sew, coach crew, gymnastics (his ability to perform a flag pole stance even in his 50's! And remember, "That's Ms. Ester to you". He loved his wife, Ann, his daughters, Jessica & Angela, his country, his God/church and tirelessly giving to those in need! Our prayers are with all of you and we know Gene is with Ann and they are well and perfect with our Savior!

I feel fortunate to have spent more time with Gene recently between services at St.Philip’s Church.
He was a true Christ follower and an example of self sacrifice.
I was able to hear stories of the work at Water Mission, his multiple trips to Honduras (and other impoverished countries), and about his beloved Anne. He also talked about his love for the word of God and for cooking.
I have heard many grocery shopping and baking tips over the years.
The last time I saw Gene he was telling me and another gentleman his recipe for butternut squash soup.
So typical of him reciting recipes. A personable Godly man of action...he will be sorely missed!

“Little children, let us not love in word or talk
but in deed and in truth.” 1John 3:18

My prayers are with all of Gene´s loved ones and friends. During my time working with volunteers at Water Mission, I witnessed first-hand Gene´s amazing heart to serve. Selflessly giving his time and talents to benefit others was as natural to him as breathing. It is who he was and how he could honor the Lord with his life. Gene was one of the most dependable, humble, inspiring people I have ever met. I will never forget how he approached life with zeal, and I count myself blessed to have partnered in service with him at Water Mission. This world will experience the impact of Gene´s life for generations to come, and I look forward to realizing the ways God will multiply his efforts to draw people from every tribe, tongue and nation to Himself. Gene lived a truly abundant life and I know that he is experiencing the fulfillment of everlasting life now with His Savior. Praise the Lord!

Although I had met your parents via my sister, Paula, I remember them vividly as warm, kind and fun. Gene gave me his recipe for she crab soup many years ago, which I still have.

I am so very sorry to hear the sad news of his passing.

Gene has always and is still today a model male role model that I continue to look to emulate. I will truly miss seeing him again. I love and miss all my Lesesne family. Seeing Gene and everyone for all the Thanksgivings over the years was always so special to me. Thank you Gene in being apart of making me the man I am today.

Gene grew up in Oak Lawn with my first husband Jimmy Baxter. He gave me a wonderful game and rice recipe that I have enjoyed through the years. So sorry to hear of his passing. Thoughts are with and of his family
