Esther Richards Obituary

Esther Richards Mt. Pleasant - Esther F. Richards, 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Donald Andrew "Pete" Richards for 65 years, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, January 26, 2022. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2022 in First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Esther was born in Charleston County on February 12, 1937, daughter of the late Meta Fort and Lever A. Fogle. She graduated from McClellanville High School with honors. Esther, a retired administrative assistant with Amoco/BP, worked at Amoco Chemical Corp. in Wando, SC for 21 years. She had been an active member of Professional Secretaries Association while employed with Amoco Chemical. Esther was a member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant and had been active with her Sunday school class until her problem with severe scoliosis prevented her from attending. She loved to read, walk on the beach, watch sunrises and sunsets at the beach and being a friend to others. Esther's most cherished roles were always as a wife, mother, grandmother, and she loved doing things for others- most times as a surprise. She is survived by her loving husband, Pete; one son, Jeffrey A. Richards (Christa); grandchildren: Rebecca Suzanne Richards, twins, Hailey Anne Richards and Heywood Andrew Richards, Malcolm Bogan, Hayden Bogan and Bennett Bogan, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one sister, Doris A. Utsey of Georgetown, SC; a number of special aunts, nieces and nephews; and two brothers-in-law, Allen Richards (Louise) of Upton, MA and Bill Richards (Patsy) of Summerville, SC. Esther was predeceased by her sister, Ruth F. Hodge and her husband, Rufus Hodge of Georgetown, SC and an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth, that survived only three days. Floral arrangements will be accepted or memorials in her name may be made to First Baptist Church, 681 McCants Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. I had the opportunity to work at the Amoco Chemical Plant with Esther for 13+ years. The last 3 1/2 years she was my Administrative Assistant. She was a very experienced professional and was a true asset to Amoco. Esther and Pete have been friends of Kathie's and mine ever since, and we have visited in each other's homes over the years. Esther was a true Christian witness throughout her life. She will be greatly missed.

Praying for comfort for you, Pete and Jeff, as you mourn the loss of your sweet wife and mother. I enjoyed the years we worked together and the friendship that continued after Esther retired. She was first class! She loved her family and was very devoted to those she served at work. I'm so sorry for your loss.
