Ervene Hiers Obituary

Ervene Hiers CHARLESTON - Ervene Lewis Hiers (96) was born December 18, 1926 to Irvin M. Lewis and Ramona Livey Lewis in Walnut, IL. She attended Knox College in Galesburg, IL and Grand Hospital in Chicago, IL. Ervene came to Charleston in 1951 as a Medical Record Librarian at Roper Hospital. In 1953, she married Jack Hiers at The Second Presbyterian Church and has been a member ever since. She was a member of La Sertona DAR, former member of the Country Club of Charleston and an avid golfer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, sister and son, Jon. Ervene is survived by two daughters; Melinda Accardo (Rocky), of Charleston, Jennifer Crosby (Peter) of The Villages, FL, five grandchildren, Jonathan Hiers, Allyson Armstrong (Adam), Katherine Accardo, Tripp Accardo, Jeremy Crosby, five nieces and three nephews. The family would like to thank Jackie Mitchell, Cora Johnson, Moesha Singleton, Clara Heslin, Evone Simmons and Sharon Jones for their loving care over the past two years. The family will receive visitors at Stuhrs Downtown, 232 Calhoun Street, Tuesday, May 23, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be at The Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street, Wednesday, May 24, at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Downtown Chapel. Memorials may be made to The Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401, or to your favorite charity. Melinda and Jen, so sorry I missed this notice. Your Mom was such a special lady! Fond memories of many visits. I know you miss her desparately. I still miss my Mom (gone since 2017) every day. They are with us forever. Love you. Vangie (Evangeline Johnson)

I am so sorry for your loss. Ervene could always make me laugh, and tell wonderful stories. I always enjoyed her company when I had the chance to visit. Time goes so quickly and we always think there is more. I hope the good memories pave the way for your healing.
