CARTER, Emily WALTERBORO - Mrs. Mary Emily Garvin Carter, 91, of 3125 Possum Corner Road, Walterboro, died Tuesday evening, February 22, 2005 at Oakwood Health Care Center in Walterboro. Funeral services will be held eleven o'clock Friday morning, February 25, 2005 at the graveside in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Jack Bailey and the Reverend David Cox officiating. Mrs. Carter was born March 19, 1913 in Jacksonboro and was a daughter of the late George and Georgie Hodge Garvin. She was the widow of Mr. Lucas Camel Carter and was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Young at Heart and will be remembered foremost for centering her life around her loving family. Surviving are: three sons, Leonard Carter, McCollin Carter and his wife Pressie, and Lee Carter and his wife Ann, all of Walterboro; and three daughters, Marie Hoats and her husband Billy, and Elizabeth Pellum and her husband Harry, all of Walterboro and Joyce Dopson and her husband Harden of Mount Pleasant. there are eight grandchildren, Carroll Hoats and his wife Jenny, Randy Hoats and his wife Cindy, Scott Pellum and his wife Crystal, Shannon Pellum and his wife Beth, Kimbe Strickfaden and her husband Scott, Hunter Carter, Christy Vorhis and her husband Kyle, and Marisa Little and her husband Steven; seven great-grandchildren, Melanie Hoats, Michelle Shelton and her husband Brian, Jason Hoats, Jonathan Hoats, Conner Pellum, Kylee Strickfaden, and Kaylyn Vorhis; and one great-great-grandchild, Savanna Shelton, that also survive Mrs. Carter. Flowers will be accepted or the family has suggested that memorials contributions be directed in her memory to: Ebenezer United Methodist Church, care of Johnny Ritter, 109 South Woodland Drive, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
