Elizabeth Blackwell Obituary

BLACKWELL, Elizabeth Elizabeth (Beth) Conlon Bischoff Blackwell, 47, of Mt. Pleasant, the wife of Jim Blackwell, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at a local hospice center. Born May 22, 1959 in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of Richard J. Bischoff, Sr. and Mary Frances Conlon Bischoff. Beth was the Salutatorian from the Class of 1977 at Bishop England High School. She received her Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism in 1981 from the University of South Carolina and her Masters Degree in Education from the College of Charleston in 1988. Beth was a beloved teacher for over 16 years at Christ Our King Stella Maris Catholic School. She will be deeply missed by her parents: Dick and Mary Frances; husband, Jim; three children: Melissa Marie Leonard, Rhett Roberts Leonard and Kevin Raleigh Blackwell all of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers: Alan B. Bischoff (Carol) and Richard J. Bischoff, Jr. (Tina) both of Mt. Pleasant; sister: Anne Marie Bischoff Dobson (Gary) of Mt. Pleasant; three uncles: Garrett A. Conlon and William T. Conlon both of Charleston and John Frederick Bischoff of Aulander, NC; in-laws: James and Jeanne Blackwell of Mt. Pleasant. Special thanks to the doctors and staff of East Cooper Regional Medical Center and the Hospice of Charleston. Their efforts and compassion are greatly appreciated. Beth loved her students and she loved teaching; she was the modern Peter Pan. Her love of youth and life were infectious to all around her, She put her family first; she loved planning and organizing parties and even vacations for anyone who asked. Beth was active in the Wando Band Boosters Club and her son Rhett is a drummer in the marching band. Like anyone Beth occasionally needed to re-charge. She did this by indulging in trips to Disney World where her Peter Pan nature was truly revealed. She is forever Mickey's biggest fan. All of the lives and hearts Beth touched will be forever enriched by the spark she left in all of us. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 1PM on Friday, September 15, 2006 at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant. The Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ Our King Stella Maris Catholic School, 1183 Russell Drive, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464; the American Cancer Society, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, N. Charleston, SC 29406 or Hospice of Charleston, Hospice Center, 676 Wando Park, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. I taught for a year with Beth at Christ Our King-Stella Maris. My heartfelt condolences to her loved ones. I remember her love of Disney, too--we crossed paths once at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, where she was staying with her family. I know she will be missed very much.
