Edwin Ray Todd, Sr. MT. PLEASANT - Edwin Ray Todd, 90, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 28, Mr. Todd was born June 29, 1934, in Conway, S.C., to the late Ernest Leonard Todd and Katie Leitha Bryant Todd. He had one sister, Mildred Irene Todd Johnson. He grew up in Conway, South Carolina. Mr. Todd was drafted into the U.S. Army from 1955 - 1957, serving the majority of his time in Japan. In 1958, he graduated from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and became a S.C. Highway Patrolman. He served on the Highway Patrol, achieving the rank of Sergeant, until 1986. During his years as a patrolman he was known to many East Cooper residents who knew him in the 50s and 60s as "The Red Rider," referring to his red hair. Later in his life he took on the moniker of "The Silver Fox." Mr. Todd was married for 64 years to Avis Faye Parsons, the love of his life. They met at a monkey show at a fair the day that he was issued his first patrol car, and he told the friend he went to the show with that he was going to marry that girl. Six months later they were married and had to go out and buy a frying pan the next morning to be able to cook themselves some breakfast. Through his wife, he came to know Jesus Christ and became a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant, serving in a variety of roles with the church over the years, including as a deacon and as a member of the adult church choir. Mr. Todd is survived by two children - Laura Todd Wilfong (Henry) and Edwin Ray Todd Jr. (Michelle) as well as three grandchildren - Logan Matthew Todd (Ashton), Aaron Todd Misenhelter, and William Bradley Todd. Visitation will be at the home of Edwin and Michelle Todd of Mt. Pleasant on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm. His funeral service will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant, 681 McCants Dr., Mt.. Pleasant, at 11:00 am.
