Edith Long Obituary

Edith Mixson Long ESTILL, SC - Mrs. Edith Elenior Mixson Long, 98, of Estill, SC died at the home of her daughter Saturday morning April 6, 2013 after an extended illness. Born November 2, 1914 in Hampton County she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Hamilton Mixson and Ida Mixson. Mrs. Long was a graduate of Varnville High School and Columbia College and was the owner and operator of Long's Red & White in Estill, SC with her husband the late William Leonard "Bone" Long. She was the oldest member of Sand Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Mixon and husband Freddie of Hampton, and granddaughters: Nicole (Jeff) Holland, Nina (David) Vaughan, Natalie (Jesse) Moon and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister Elsie Lavinia Causey. Funeral services will be held Monday April 8, 2013 at 11 A.M. in Sand Hill Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Don Turner and Rev. George Skinner and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home located at 300 Mulberry St. West, Hampton, SC 29924 (803-943-3352) on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 P.M. The casket will be placed in the church at 10 A.M. prior to the service on Monday. Memorials in her memory may be directed to Sand Hill Baptist Church, 15480 Pocotaligo Road, Varnville, SC 29944 or the Sand Hill Cemetery Association, 111 Mary St., Hampton, SC 29924.
