Edith Johnson Obituary

Edith C. Johnson BEAVER DAM, SC - Edith Carr Johnson, 96, of Beaver Dam, SC, a former cashier for Owen's Grocery, died Saturday morning at her daughter's residence. Her funeral will be 2:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, April 24, 2012, in the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church. Interment will follow in the Johnson Cemetery. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM this Monday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. Mrs. Johnson was born August 11, 1915, in St. Stephen, SC, a daughter of Otto M. Carr and Delilah Smith Carr. She was a long time member of the Mt. Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served as the Sunday school superintendent for many years. She was affectionately called "The Mother of the Church" by her fellow members. Mrs. Johnson loved her church very much, but she also enjoyed gardening and canning. She was preceded in death by a son, Beverly C. Johnson, and was the widow of William H. Johnson. Surviving are, two daughters, Eleanor J. Mims and her husband, Danny, and Barbara J. Worten and her husband, Wayne, all of Beaver Dam; a son, Carroll Johnson and his wife, Terri, of Beaver Dam; three sisters, Bessie C. Waldron of Moncks Corner, and Ann C. Bunch and Louise C. McMakin both of St. Stephen; a brother, Billy Carr of St. Stephen; twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
