Douglas Hypes Obituary

Douglas MacArthur Hypes, 83, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025. He was born on September 6, 1942, in Radford, Virginia, the son of the late Ralph Hypes and Nettie Sponaugle.
Douglas was a proud veteran, serving 22 years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, during the Vietnam era. His strong sense of duty, discipline, and love for his country were forever important to him. Following his military retirement, he continued his career working for Bosch, retiring again after 20 years.
For 62 years, Douglas was devoted to his beloved wife, Karin Vollman Hypes. Together they built a beautiful life, raising their family with love, discipline, and faith. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching football, fishing, and weightlifting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karin Hypes; his children: Douglas W. Hypes, Rebecca Stanfield, and Doris Dees (David); three grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; as well as his siblings: Roger Hypes, Eleanor Perry, Henry Wysong, and Joe Sponaugle. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Edith Keim and Butch Wysong.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
