Donald Cook Obituary

Donald S. Cook 84, a longtime Bellingham resident, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Irene A. (Thornhill) Cook, who died in 1996. Born in Springfield, Sept. 29, 1926, a son of the late Thomas and Frances (Frost) Cook, he lived in Bellingham since 1968. Mr. Cook was a career United States Serviceman. He began his career with the United States Navy during World War II, and then changed to the Army and retired in 1967, after having served in three wars, World War II, the Korean and Viet Nam wars. He retired with the rank of Staff Sgt. E-6. He took part in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, and was a proud member of the US Army Rifle Team. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed gardening, football and baseball. He is survived by five sons; Thomas Cook and his wife June of Mendon, Donald S. Cook Jr. and his wife Jodie of Franklin, Michael L. Cook and his wife Cheryl of Bellingham, James T. Cook and his wife Susan of Millville, David P. Cook of Blackstone, two daughters; Rose Marie Grady and her husband Thomas of Mendon, Linda MacNeil and her husband Russell of Bellingham, 14 grandchildren; Matthew, Amanda, Jason, Joshua, Kristen, Brenna, Zachary, and Nicole Cook, Shay Caravaggio, Rebecca Walsh, Kelly Wood, Jenny Grady, Derek and Robert MacNeil, and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Cook was also the great grandfather of the late Kelsey Rose. Relatives and friends were invited to attend his funeral Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m., in the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St. Franklin, www.oterifuneralhome.com. Interment with military honors followed in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Bellingham. Calling hours were Tuesday, 4-8 p.m., at the funeral home. Donations in his memory sent to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108, would be appreciated.
