Bowman was a light in the world and will be missed. He was an inspiring teacher and had such a flair for lecturing that I quite looked forward to his class. Although I never practiced after earning my master's, he influenced my life and my parenting.

Thanks for being the best English Professor at Boys High School in Anderson, SC, and thanks for coming to teach at the Citadel where I saw you the last time in 1964, Sorry I could not take a course under your superior training. as that was my last semester there. There are so few folks like you, Dr. Bowman. RIP. Tim Williams

Dr. Bowman was also my favorite professor while I was enrolled in the Citadel's M.A.T. graduate program during the years 1969-1973. I was a teacher at the High School of Charleston while taking classes during summers and nights at the Citadel. Dr. Bowman's psychology courses were among the very best and I learned much from him. During my own 41-year career in education as a teacher, administrator and professor, I applied much of what I learned from him to how I worked with colleagues, peers, parents and students. I have thought of him throughout the years and always had the highest respect for him as an exemplary educator. I am happy to know he had such a long and rewarding life.

May Gods light shine eternal on Oliver! He was such a wonderful man. He and Bob are together again. Love and peace, Ty Leslie

Dr. Bowman was my favorite teacher at The Citadel from 1962 to 1966. He inspired me to study psychology and while I was in the Army I took graduate courses at Georgia State University, the University of Alabama at Huntsville and Indiana University Purdue in Indianapolis before earning my masters degree in psychology from Columbia University in New York City. I still have my Citadel senior essay with his handwritten comments on it. He touched the lives of many. Kenneth Spink

Oliver will be so missed by his South Bay family. He was a true gentleman, always with a smile and kind greeting. The staff and residents were lucky to have known him for these past few years of his life. Condolences to his family and friends.

In 1967 I took introduction to psychology at the Citadel taught by Oliver Bowman. On the first day he wore the required staff uniform with a madras tie. I knew things were going to be a little different! I enjoyed his course so much I took his course in abnormal psychology too. He became my favorite teacher through my years at both the Citadel and Tulane med school. I always remembered his insight, gentle nature, kindness, and wisdom.

This wonderful man and Bob were 100% instrumental in giving us, as a newly married couple, the best advice as we made a difficult decision that ultimately proved THE BEST! We will forever be grateful to you two and will never forget you. God Bless you.

Oliver was always such a warm and lovely presence in our church, and we'll miss him deeply. He was a friend to all, and his pew will feel quite lonely this coming Sunday. I know his memory will be such a blessing.

Brilliant, movie-star handsome, and a complete Southern gentleman, Ollie Bowman quietly went about his life and work while achieving great things. He was a wonderful example for younger people to admire and emulate.

Many thanks to Oliver for all he has done for the Poetry Society of South Carolina - he was a true lover of people and poetry.

My deepest sympathies. Dr Bowman was my boss for many years in the Counseling Center at the Citadel and I hold such respect for him as a person and as a professional. I personally witnessed his love for his work, friends and family. A great man!

Heaven has gained such a gracious angel, and beautiful soul. We will love you and miss you always Uncle Ollie.

I´m so very sad to read this. We would sit in front of Oliver every Sunday at St. Stephen´s Episcopal Church. He was truly a gentleman who made everyone feel special. I will miss him.
