Clara Cotton Obituary

Clara Bow Martin Cotton CHARLESTON - Clara Bow Martin Cotton, 86, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Kellinger R. Cotton, Jr., entered into eternal rest Wednesday, February 18, 2015. Her Requiem Mass will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 in the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Ravenel United Methodist Churchyard. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Clara Bow was born March 15, 1928 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of James O. Martin and Kate Blackmon Martin. She was a graduate of North Charleston High School and one of the first women to graduate from the MUSC School of Pharmacy. She and her husband were joint owners of Felder-Cotton Drugs and served the community through their business. Clara Bow was also active in numerous civic organizations supporting her children throughout their school and church activities. She was a member of the Church of the Holy Communion and a member of St. Catherine's Guild. For many years she had been a member of the Citadel Square Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and was director of the Girl's Auxiliary. She was a Lifetime member of the South Carolina Parent Teacher's Association, and in 1957 was selected "Man of the Year" by the Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary, East Cooper. Clara Bow was a member of Lambda Kappa Sigma, Pharmaceutical Fraternity, American Pharmaceutical Association, the South Carolina Pharmaceutical Association, and a Life Member of the Medical University of South Carolina Alumni Association. She is survived by her son, Kellinger R. Cotton III of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Lorelei C. Faucette of Savannah, GA and Heidi C. Starr (Jerry) of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren, Nathaniel Faucette, Brittany Starr Clark (Brad), Cameron Starr, and Kyle Starr; and her sister, Jimmie Louise Savarese of Beaufort, SC. Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Avenue, Charleston, SC 29403.
