Claire Nussbaum Obituary

Claire Nussbaum CHARLESTON - Claire Krawcheck Nussbaum died Sunday night, January 20, 2013, at her home. She was born in Charleston on January 22, 1932, the second of four children of Esther and Jack Krawcheck. Mrs. Nussbaum graduated from Ashley Hall School, attended the College of Charleston until she left school to begin her 63 years of marriage to Maurice B. Nussbaum. With two children in her first five years of marriage and two children more than a decade later, she returned to the College of Charleston to complete her BS in Psychology in 1975. Mrs. Nussbaum earned an M.Ed. in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Citadel in 1978 and began a full-time career in counseling while her two younger daughters were still at home. She served as the Guidance and College Admissions Counselor at College Preparatory School for three years, then as the Coordinator for Social Services at the Charleston Jewish Federation, and completed her career in her own private counseling practice. Mrs. Nussbaum was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose style, stories, and songs served as a parenting model for her children and grandchildren. She always was available to her family and friends for emotional support, and her home was the family center for holidays and celebrations of family occasions. She is survived by her husband Maurice, son Alan I. Nussbaum (Neda), daughters Jane N. Douglas (John), Susan N. Rieder (Jeffrey), and Amy N. Kronsberg (Edward); grandchildren Rachel Nussbaum (Noam Pianko), Daniel Nussbaum (Allison), Nathan Nussbaum (Jaclyn Cohen), Joseph Nussbaum (Victoria Neiman), Jacob Nussbaum, Elisheva Douglas Frankel, Benjamin Douglas, David Rieder, Michael Rieder, Brian Rieder, Elliot Kronsberg, Zachary Kronsberg, and William Kronsberg, and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her older brother, Saul Krawcheck (Blossom), and is survived by a sister, Myra Read of Lacey, WA, and a brother, Leonard Krawcheck (Townie) of Charleston. Funeral services will be held at the graveside in Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
