Charles Winding Obituary

Charles Arthur Winding, Jr. CHARLESTON - Charles Arthur Winding, Jr., of Charleston, SC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Born in December 1935 to Charles and Elizabeth (nee Bovier) Winding in Madison, WI. Chuck grew up in Elmira, NY. He attended and graduated from The Clarke School for the Deaf as a young student and went on to graduate as the first deaf graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. He went on to work in NYC as a graphic designer, where he managed a small group of designers. Chuck's passion in life was the ocean. He sailed his entire life, starting at an early age as a boy on Cape Cod. Throughout his boating life, he sailed in countless Regattas, winning many trophies. He built many friendships throughout the sailing community, which continue to this day. He loved the ocean. Chuck was a beloved father of three boys, Chad, Chris and Carter. He was adored by his grandchildren, Ben, Gabi, Julianna and Jameson. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Banjo and Pearl Rose. He is also survived by his loving sister, Lorna. From a quote from the local newspaper who did a profile on him; "Chuck is an inspiration to us all, not only because he is deaf and has overcome many obstacles, but because of his enthusiasm for life and positive contribution to society." Vale, Chuck! A fantastic, loving person who lived large and is now sailing in that great Regatta in the sky! RIP! Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston
