Charlie was so supportive of his friends and St Andrews where his mother had been so active. He was a giant among men and we loved his wife and family. Harry and Barbara Mims

Contribution to higher education is top shelf. Preserved an iconic Historic Black College and University, South Carolina State University, setting it up for continued excellence in broad academic fields. His leadership set the example open for visionary leadership at the University for producing top scientists, military leaders, and other professions.

I took care of Charlie''s downtown office for a number of years. He always made a point to find me, and thank me for my efforts, no matter how small the job was.

To Mary Ellen and family I express my deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He gave so much of himself not only to his family but to so many others. The city, state, and many other organizations are more prosperous because of his service to them. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to all of my Way family. Charlie will truly be missed! He was larger than life, his humor and uplifting spirit made it a joy to be in his presence. He was so kind and funny but truly a southern gentleman and the love he had for his family was immense. I feel so fortunate to have known him and I will always treasure the fond memories. Mr. Way accepted the role of contributing to survival and growth of my Alma Mater, South Carolina State University. His leadership was key to passing key tests in getting support from alumni and the State for continuing this Historically Black College. He met with me and other persons whose lives were fashioned at the University where opportunity started. We owe an incredible gratitude to his service to the University and the State of South Carolina. My sympathies to the family.

Mr. Way was 100 percent for South Carolina. Even though I was active in the Republican Party he always was kind to me when our paths crossed in business. His legacy is still growing as his efforts helped this State attract jobs and investment not just during his time with the governor, but for many years before and after. Prayers for his family and many friends.

I was sad to hear of Charlie's death. I had known him for a long time and he was the best businessman this city has ever seen. He also had the strongest voice -- you could hear him a block away. He was also one of the most respected and savviest man I've ever known. Charleston mourns his death and prayers for the family.

Charles Segnious Way, Jr. - a gentleman, scholar, jolly good fellow - words to be added to the descriptions that others have used to describe the one-of-a-kind Charlie Way - the words passionate, magnanimous, booming voice, community minded, bold, successful, humble leader, entrepreneur, can be added to describe the family man, loving father, grandfather, community volunteer, along with other added adjectives that are traits embodied by Charleston´s/South Carolina´s unique community leader. Charlie was one of a kind in a business transaction, a social occasion, at the Wellness Center, in a community endeavor. A sincere thank you to Charlie, Mary Ellen, and his family for all that they have done to make the community/state a better place. Rest in peace with God´s blessing. My deepest sympathy to the family during your time of bereavement.

I will so miss Mr. Charlie calling me with something humorous to say or stopping to talk to me every time he came to the office. He was one of the kindest individuals I have ever known and he always made you feel important. I have so many great memories and conversations with him that I will keep close to my heart and I will think of him fondly. My heart and my prayers go to all his family.

Years ago I worked for a lawyer whose office was in the same building as the Beach Company. I have never forgotten the friendliness, humor, and caring nature of Charles Way. I was so fortunate to enjoy time with him along with all the others we worked with. What a great man we have lost, and I will never forget his kindness to me and others.

Charlie was a Giant, even in his early days as a Fraternity Man at South Carolina. We have all lost a real Friend.
