Charles Stier Obituary

Charles John Stier, Jr. JAMES ISLAND - Charles John Stier, Jr. of James Island, beloved husband and father at the age of 92, entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2010. Charles was born in Boston, MA on October 29, 1917 to Charles and Marie Stier. Charles proudly served his county and retired from the United States Navy after 24 years. He had served in World War II and also during the Korean Conflict. Upon retirement from the Navy, Charles managed a package store in Boston, Massachsettes. He then moved to Columbia, SC where he work for and retired from Carolina Eastman Kodak. After retirement he moved and enjoyed 20 years in Florida. Charles and his wife then moved to Charleston in 2006 to be closer to his daughters. He had lived here until his death. He is survived by his wife, Effie Mae Jordan Stier; two daughters, Carole Jean Forsythe of Charleston and Effie Jeanette Thomas of Gilbert ,SC, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Wyatte Joseph Stier. Visitation for Charles will take place on Friday, February 12 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, West Ashley Chapel (2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414). A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, February 13 at 11:00 AM at Church of the Nativity (1061 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412). Interment will take place at Ft. Robbie I'm so sorry to hear about grandpa. I always enjoyed cutting his hair and hearing about his time in the South Pacific. My condolences to you and your family. He will be missed!
