Charles Shook Obituary

Charles Davis Shook WALTERBORO - Mr. Charles Davis Shook, affectionately known as "Chuck", age 88, entered into rest surrounded by his loving family Thursday evening, December 31, 2015, at his home on Overhill Drive in the Forest Hills Subdivision of Walterboro, while under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina. He was the loving husband of sixty-seven years to the late Mrs. Marjorie Hatfield Shook, who was the light and love of his life. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning, January 7, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Rich Johnston, officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 106 May Street, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488; or to Boy Scouts of America, Post Office Box 7143, Charlotte, North Carolina 28241, or donate at: www.scouting.org. Born May, 10, 1927, a son of the late Roy and Bessie Hall Shook, he was a native of Asheville, North Carolina, having made Walterboro his home for the past sixty-seven years. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy, having entered when he was only fifteen-years-old, and serving aboard the PC610 until the ending of World War II. He retired from the Colleton Regional Hospital, where he was a well-known and beloved icon as Maintenance Engineer after many years of dedicated service. Work and family were his life. For many years, he was a Cub Scout leader and was active with sports during his children's childhood and young-adult years. He was longtime member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church. He will always be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, and baseball, and will be especially remembered for his willingness to help others. He was known as the guy who could fix what was broken. Surviving are: his three daughters, Karen Shook Fucito and her husband Walt of Lenoir, North Carolina, Cindy Shook Breslin and her husband George of Jacksonville, Florida, and Dee Shook Adams and her husband Thomas of Terre Haute, Indiana; five grandchildren, Kasey Poteet, Randi Kamp, Ricki Debs, Kyle Gahagan, and Shannon Gahagan; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a faithful and loving care provider, Ella "Ellie" Wright; and many who he loved as his own and who thought of him as a father, including Anne Dixon, Kevin Mueller, Jeff Mueller, Mike Mueller, and Mike Smith. He was a sweet, sweet man who was loved and cherished. He will be remembered and missed by so many, who were blessed to have known him. He would do anything for anyone. I will always love his kind and heart-warming smile. In high school, I took family vacations with Mr. and Mrs. Shook and the twins, where I learned and experienced so much. He was like a father to me ! I love you, PaPa !
