Kay & Boys,

I am so sorry to hear Buddy has left you, and I know you must miss him terribly. He was such a pistol! Fun, unpredictable, spontaneous... never a dull moment, which you all know better than most! I am glad I had the opportunity to know such a delightful character! I hope you all find comfort in those colorful stories and warm memories.

Dearest Kay,
Please accept my most heartfelt condolences. I just recently learned of Buddy's battle with cancer and I am very saddened for your loss. One of my most treasured memories (and a story I still tell today) is when Buddy and I took a 4-day, 3-night canoe trip from Columbia to Charleston down the Congaree river back in '77. It was a Radio Station promotion that turned out to be quite an adventure and remains a benchmark in my life. Now, more than ever I am reminded of one of Buddy's favorite axioms..."there is nothing more constant than change". I wish you and yours well through this trying time.

Our family is saddened to hear of the death of Mr. Barton and we offer you our heartfelt condolences. Our son, Peter Matonis, was an employee of Mr. Barton’s at the Barton and Burwell store in Mount Pleasant. He worked there after his graduation from The Citadel in 2006 until he reported for active duty with the United States Army this past February. His experience with Barton and Burwell absolutely deepened his love for hunting and fishing. Thank you. - Sincerely, The Matonis Family, Idaho Falls, Idaho

I grew up with Buddy when he and his family lived on 36th Street. My family lived on 37th Street (the White's). Buddy and I became friends along with my siblings. We had a lot of good times playing in the vacant field behind my house. I remember Buddy being a great guy. He will surely be missed. My prayers to his family.

Kay,

I was so sorry to hear of Buddy’s passing; I knew he was very ill but did know the end would come so soon. It was great to see you both 3 years ago and you at the reunion last year. Buddy was a very nice guy and I know he will be missed by his family and many friends. I knew him in the old 37th Street neighborhood and fondly remember his mother, whom we all saw daily as our crossing guard at 37th Street Elementary. I know this must be especially tough for her.

My thoughts are with her and you and your children.

Mrs. Kay, Anthony and Sandy-- I was so very sad to learn of Mr. Buddy's passing. I will never forget what a kind man he was. I was honored to be hired by him at "the Big Bubba" when I was only 19 years old. We sure were one big happy family back then....such precious memories! Take care of yourselves in the coming days, and know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. We were all blessed to have had Buddy in our lives.

Dear Ms. Kay, Anthony, and Sandy,
It's been many years since I have seen you. I have many fond memories of Mr. Buddy from Salt Point. I know how saddened your hearts must be. I lost my Dad last month, and not a day goes by that I don't think of him. All you can do is know that he is in a better place and have peace in your hearts. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

I have many fond childhood memories of Buddy, although as adults we lost contact. Our parents were lifelong friends. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Buddy's wife and children, but would like them to know that he was a wonderful person, with a wonderful family, and that I am praying time will ease their sorrow and grief.

Dear Kay and family, It is with sincerest sorrow and regret for you and all of your and Buddy's family and friends (including me)that I send this belated note. I did not know about Buddy's condition or I would have certainly been in touch earlier. Buddy Barton was a great guy. If we had lived in the same town as grown ups, I would have sought you folks out as good friends. As it were, I only saw you at a couple of SHS reunions. Please know that Buddy and You will be in our hearts and prayers at the SHS class reunion (a "mini") this Saturday in Atlanta. Sadly and with Caring Sympathy, John Williams

Kay - I'm sorry to hear of Buddy's passing. Charles Goldsmith and I were just talking about Buddy last week. Buddy and I grew up together right down the tracks from each other. My fondest memory of Buddy is walking to his house when I was 9 years old and he and I would ride the bus to Coke Field on President's Avenue and play Little League baseball together. We played for American Legion Post #184. That was in 1952 and the 1st year Little League Baseball was played in Savannah. My thoughts and prayers are with you and his family at this time.
