It's never easy to lose someone but he was well-loved by many who will remember him fondly. Gone but never forgotten Carl. May the many friends and family he has draw comfort from his memory and each other.

When I am dead, my dearest

When I am dead, my dearest,
Sing no sad songs for me;
Plant thou no roses at my head,
Nor shady cypress tree:
Be the green grass above me
With showers and dewdrops wet;
And if thou wilt, remember,
And if thou wilt, forget.

I shall not see the shadows,
I shall not feel the rain;
I shall not hear the nightingale
Sing on, as if in pain:
And dreaming through the twilight
That doth not rise nor set,
Haply I may remember,
And haply may forget.

In a time such as this, it is easy to forget the words spoken. We seem only to remember the faces of those who were there for us.

Carl's long journey into the Undiscovered Country was one of immense pain and suffering.He endured through the last few years with a strength and capacity I believe made possible through the mercy of God and the continuing Prayers of those whom called him friend.
I shall miss him. I am honored to have had the privilege of being his Friend and doing what I could to help him during his most difficult times. Time and again when You'd think "this was it" he would fight onwards and refuse to give up. Tenacity and Carl were old Friends up to his passing. I Pray for his wife Rita and Family. May God comfort them in these difficult days.

We are gathered here today to pay final respects to our dear friend. Commodore Lewis. Carl was a passionate and caring person who did all he could with what he had for the causes and people he cared about.. He did not feel this sacrifice a vain or empty one, and we will not debate his profound wisdom at this moment in time. Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most... caring”
