Brooks Boveroux Obituary

Brooks Boveroux KIAWAH ISLAND - Brooks Boveroux, who held several senior level financial positions for both public and private healthcare companies, died after a long illness on June 9, 2015 at his home in Kiawah, South Carolina. He was 71. Brooks was born in Glen Ridge, NJ on August 7, 1943 and was the second son of Sylvia and Leonard Boveroux. He grew up in Essex Fells, NJ, graduated from Hamilton College and earned his MBA in finance from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1967. While a student at Wharton, Brooks signed up to serve as a member of the US Navy. He served from 1967-1971, eventually becoming an F-8 pilot in 1969. As a pilot, he served two tours in Vietnam, one on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La (1970) and the other on the USS Oriskany (1971). As luck would have it, right after graduating Wharton, Brooks met Margaret (Meg) Tassie from Princeton, NJ. He courted her throughout his time in the Navy and they married on December 29, 1968. After his second tour in Vietnam, Brooks began his financial career, first at Citibank, then Pepsi and Allied Chemical. In 1984, he ventured into Biotechnology when he joined Biogen as their Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He went on to work in financial positions for other prominent biotechnology companies such as ImClone Systems and the Liposome Company, Inc. His last position was as CFO of Imcor Pharmaceutical Co. from which he retired in 2004. After retiring, he became a member of the Board of Directors of the Medical University of South Carolina, volunteered at Habitat for Humanity, sang in the Gospel Choir of the Charleston Symphony and for the Island Choraliers. Family was very important to Brooks and always came first, but throughout his life he thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the tennis court and the golf course. He also played paddle tennis, was an active skier and amateur photographer. Brooks is survived by his wife, Meg; his son, Parker; his daughter, Lisa; his four grandchildren, Megan (17), Jack (12), Brooke (9), and Fox (3). His is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth of Boston, Massachusetts, and his brother, Kent of Neena, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. .
