Brian Cooper Obituary

Brian Scott Cooper SUMMERVILLE - Brian Scott Cooper passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 10, 2016, which was his 45th birthday. Brian was born on March 10, 1971 in Charleston, S.C., and graduated from Middleton High School. He worked in his family business at Tri-County Ice & Fuel Company until it was sold, then became self-employed. Brian had many friends that he loved and enjoyed his life with. He was a true and loving family man and was extremely close to his niece and nephews and loved them dearly. Even though they had their ups and downs, he cherished his time with his brother. Brian never wanted to venture far from home, wanting to be near his mother and missing his father terribly. Friends and family both loved Brian's witty personality, his unending humor, and his caring heart. He did not hesitate to help where help was needed and was always there for his family and friends, making it a point to visit his grandmothers often, whom he loved very much. Brian was an avid sports fan and enjoyed walking and running. He ran in many races and half-marathons and especially loved boxing, baseball and football. Brian is survived by his mother, Janet Mangum Cooper-Tanner and step-father, Sam Tanner of Moncks Corner, S. C.; brother, Keenan L. Cooper (Kris) of Orange Park, Florida; nephews, Jordan Cooper and Riley Cooper of Summerville, S. C., Cade Cooper of Orange Park, Florida; niece, Morgan Cooper of Summerville, S. C.; stepbrothers, Donald Tanner of Johns Island, S. C., and Michael Tanner (Deirdre); and step-niece, Clark of Charleston, S. C. Brian is also survived by his Ma-Ma, Catherine Cooper, and grandma, Ruby Mangum, both of Summerville, S. C., as well as many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, Billy Cooper III; his Pa-Pa, Bill Cooper, Jr.; and his granddaddy, Ed Mangum, Sr. The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday, March 13th at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12 PM on Monday, March 14th at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., N. Charleston. Visit our guestbook at www.legacy.com/obituaries/ charleston

Brian, My world is forever changed with you no longer here in body. When I am sad I hear you telling me "Mom, I'm okay!". And when I say or do something silly, I hear you laughing at me, and that's okay! My heart will always have a hole in it as I miss seeing you and talking to you. You were always there for me and I cherished our closeness. I thank God and am grateful that I had you for 45 years even though I never expected you to go home before me. Your family and I miss you and love you dearly. Mom

We talked back and forth for over 15 yrs and I wish I could of met you in person. I think we missed each other at my gym a few years back. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have started my obsession with boxing videos. I'll think of you every time I come across a rare fight. Miss you Mr. Cooper

We will all truly miss Brian. I will always remember the years we played baseball, messing around filming stupid stuff with his video camera, and hanging out with Brian, Jeff, Donnie, David, and Bill. Being roommates with Brian and Jeff were some of the funniest times of my life and I will always cherish those memories. It will be hard to watch a boxing or wrestling match without thinking about Brian. I miss you man!

During the summer of 1980 I had the privilege of being Brian's baseball coach at St. Andrews Playground. With his steady play at third base and his consistent hitting he helped lead our team Wappoo Oil to the Small Fry Championship. I'll never forget how as our cleanup hitter Brian would step up to the plate, pound on it hard a few times with his bat, and then try to intimidate the pitcher with a ferocious glare. He was the best hitter on the best team in the league. We called him Super Cooper. Brian was selected to play on the St. Andrews National All-Star Team. He played a big part in us winning the James Island Optimist Tournament Championship. It was a summer full of great accomplishments. But I remember Brian giving us much more than trophies and championships that season. There is the joy that we still have to this day from time spent with Brian that summer. So much fun, laughter, and great memories. And of course that smile of his that we will forever remember.

Dear Janet, Patti, Mrs. Cooper, Gloria . I know it has been a very long time since I have seen you all. However, your family helped shape me into who I am.
I remember Brian as a beautiful little blonde headed boy that was full of life.
Please accept my sympathy. Losing him at such a young age has got to be shocking and devastating at the same time. May God bless you & keep you in his hands. BJ Rodgers (Betty McCaskill)

To the Cooper Family,
I am very saddened to hear about the loss of Brian. He was a good friend to many. I will always remember the good times we had growing up as teenagers, playing baseball, working at the ice plant, and being roommates. He was very social, always had a smile and loved to laugh. I remember the many times I spent with Brian and the Cooper family during holidays. Your family was always good to me and I considered you all my second family as well. God bless you all through these tuff times. Brian will be missed by many.
