Brandon, you are great guy. I remember the day you and Ben came to Belvedere to help Marques move to Charleston. I said to myself that day, what a great guy. How could anyone come to a place and help someone move and have only known that person about a week. But that's what we do. We Fire Fighters stick together and keep the bond strong. It is the kindness in each of our hearts that makes us who we are. You are one of the best Brandon. I will never forget you. I love you brother and I'll see you again someday.

TO MY BEST FRIEND, MY BROTHER AND MY HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTON. THE DAYS OF HANGING AROUND THE STATION ALL DAY RUNNING CALL AFTER CALL AND HAVING TO WORK ON THE TRUCKS AND STATION BETWEEN EACH ONE. THE LONG NIGHTS OF STAYING OUT ALL NIGHT BEFORE HAVING TO GO TO WORK, BY THE WAY CHIEF RUSTY CALLED ME OUT ON THE SICK TIME. OH, ALL THE GOOD MEMORIES WILL ALWAYS BE KEPT CLOSE TO MY HEART. YOU AND THE OTHER CHARLESTON 9 WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART. I LOVE YOU ALL!!

I remember Brandon as a young child. My girls (Amy & Holly) use to play with Brandon, Frank and Jeff when they were at their Grandma's house during the summer and of course there was that trip to DC with the grade school that I am sure we all have memories of. All of your boys were so nice. I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Your family is in our prayers and thoughts. Russ and Susan Gibbs (Pittsburgh, PA)

It's hard to find the words right now. I knew Brandon, Jeff and Frank not only through school but because my husband is one of their fellow brothers. I pray that through God's grace and mercy you will all make it through. Brandon was a good man, friend and firefighter and will be deeply missed. Rachel to you especially if you need to talk please feel free to call or come by. Our door is always open to family.

I didn't know Thompson very well on a personal level; however, I did know his work ethic. I worked with Brandon on many collision scenes and he was always very professional and helpful. I knew if Brandon arrived on scene, I would have all the help I needed. He carried himself like a veteran firefighter/first responder. I know he will be truly missed on the road and in many hearts.

To The Thompson Family,
I knew Brandon from going to station 5 and 10 to visit friends. I will always remember his smile. He went out of his way to smile at you. It will not be the same going to station without seeing his smile. I am a vol firefighter and was called to the scene. When i was told that Brandon was one of the missing my heart broke. Nothing I can say can ease your pain. I know that Brandon and the other 8 are true heroes. I know that they are all in a big fire station in Heaven. They are all watching over us today. Brandon, until I see you again my friend and my hero. God Speed.

Brother of Brandon Thompson:
Several things come to mind if I had only five seconds to tell you something. Would I say "I love you", would it be "I miss you"? However, I think by only saying that "I am proud of you" would cover all basis. Frank and I were so proud of you when you joined the fire department. Many nights were spent at the station when the "Thompson engine" would roll on a call. I love you so much. The memories of you come into my head as if it were yesterday. Being a groomsman at my wedding. Being the first one to the hospital on numerous occassions for Frank, Brandy and I. Cooking with dad. Building the Pine Ridge into what it is today. I can never express how you touched so many. In the past couple of days, I have met all those who called you friend, but no call you hero. I love you brother. Your in my heart and in my thoughts as I arrive and take command. I will keep your memory so close to me during calls and emergencies. You were the greatest. A fireman's fireman. I will never know, but I think it was fate that brought us into the fire service. We loss our house when we were kids to fire. And all three of us became firemen. Look over us. Look over me. I love you.

To the Thompson Family:
I, like many others, went to school with Brandon from elementary school through Stratford. Riding the bus through Sangaree with two brothers, who at that age were totally opposite, was an adventure. One was so outspoken and the other so soft-spoken and reserved. Brandon will truly be missed! I will miss seeing him at the intersections of Summerville with a boot in hand and a smile to thank you. My thoughts and prayers are with your family!

Frank, Sr., Stephanie, Jeff, Frank, Rachel, and fellow firefighters;
Words cannot begin to express how deeply sorry I am that you have lost your son, brother, fiance, co-worker, and friend. My heart aches for you, and we all share in your grief.
When my dad died, it consoled me knowing that he died doing what he loved. Most people don't get to LIVE doing something they love, much less die for it. But, these men did--every day, not just June 18. The life he left behind, the memories, the service, and the sacrifice....it will never be forgotten!!
At the Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial, the walls are inscribed, "It is not how these men died that makes them heroes; it is how they lived." And, I truly believed that Brandon's life in service and his love for his family, friends, and fellow man are what make him a true hero.
We love you all very much and are here for you if ever you should need us.

To Comfort those who are left to grieve: Brandon's loving family.
"Don't weep for me, as if I have no hope, for the day has dawn, and in this world, I did cope, by living a life as a person of merit, so that some great day, heaven's treasures I'll inherit. For I lived a life that is becoming to Christ, putting off all trouble and useless strife, Helping the helpless, and soothing the souls of the less privileged, the young, and the old. I have accepted the Lord God in my life, which is the sure foundation to eternal life.
It is hard I know for you to look on, and watch man bury memories we've built for so long, to put to rest all that I have done, but don't be discouraged, for now my life has begun. Life with meaning with the Lord Jesus Christ, that I'll live forever in Paradise. I'll miss you all, and for you I will pray, but don't weap for me, for I'm happy today".
Debbie & Robert Hampton
June 22, 2007
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I also knew Brandon back in the days- We went to the same school, rode the bus and lived in the same neighborhood. I moved away many years ago but he was one of the many guys who stood out in childhood memories due to his wonderful "teddy bear" charm! I wished I had a camera to share with everyone because I truly know in my heart that those rays of light were of 9 heros shining down on all of us. To the Thompson Family:
I can not find the words to say
Exactly how I feel.
That truly describes the hurt inside,
For I know your pain is so real.
Your heart, so heavy, with so much pain,
for the empty loss inside.
The tears fall down like falling rain
That never seems to subside.
It's very hard to say "goodbye",
To the one you loved so much.
But if you go to God in prayer,
You'll feel His sense of touch.
Think of your sorrows calmly,
when daylight turns to night.
Go tell it all to Jesus,
For He will make it right.
He's always there to listen,
When your grief, to Him, you give.
You'll feel the burden lifted,
And again, your life you'll live.

We did not know Brandon personally, but we come from a family of firefighters. We extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. There are few words of comfort during a tragic loss as this. The nation mourns with you and Brandon's sacrifice will not go unnoticed. He is a true Hero and will never be forotten. Our prayers are with you.
With sincere sympathy,

To the Family of a HERO:
Words can not express what you are going through right now. I went to high school with Brandon and he had the ability to make someone smile even if they were having a horrible day. Brandon was a true hero to anyone that came in contact with him, just for the simple fact that he would befriend anyone. Everyone that came into contact with Brandon will be blessed for the rest of their lives. May you rest in peace. I will always remember you and will continue to pray for your family daily. May god bless each and every one of them. You will always be remembered for being the true hero that you are.
