Betty Tumbleston Obituary

Betty Bunton Tumbleston Charleston - Betty Bunton Tumbleston, 85, of Charleston, SC, wife of Donald A. Tumbleston, Sr., entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Covington, LA surrounded by her children. Her funeral will be held Friday, October 28, 2022, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel at 12 PM. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 27, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Betty was born February 19, 1937 in Charleston, SC, a daughter of the late Nelson Clifton Bunton and Ira Irene Roberts Bunton. She was a lady of great faith, attending Johns Island First Baptist Church as a child, was a charter member of Sycamore Baptist Church and a member of Maple Cain Baptist Church, where a Sunday School Class is dedicated in her and Mr. Tumbleston's names. She graduated from H&R Block Tax Preparation School; prepared taxes and also worked in child day care. Betty was a member of the Southern Early Childhood Association; Small Business Women's Association; volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was named Woman of the Year by the American Legion. Being a homemaker was a gift of hers and her doors were always open for anyone and no one ever left hungry. She may have had four children, but she raised endless numbers of others. Betty was everybody's Mama. She adored her two favorite sons-in-law, David and Floyd. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Donald A. Tumbleston, Sr. of Charleston, SC; daughters, Irene Buenting (David) of Edisto Island, SC and Betty Jo Bagwell (Floyd) of Ridgeway, SC; sons, Donald Tumbleston, Jr. (Melissa) of Covington, LA, and Glenn Tumbleston, Sr. (Betty) of Cottageville, SC. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Floyd Bagwell, Jr. of Ridgeway, SC, Russell Bagwell of Charleston, SC, Jeremiah Bagwell of Ridgeway, SC, Tiffany Romanchek (Chris) of Charleston, SC, Brooke Hamby (Brandon) of Charleston, SC, Brandi N. Craven of Walterboro, SC, Glenn S. Tumbleston, Jr. (Ashley) of Cottageville, SC, Gabrielle Tumbleston and Isabella Tumbleston of Covington, LA; and 17 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Emily Pye; grandson, Chadd Buenting; granddaughter, Chelsea Tumbleston; granddaughter-in-law, Carmen Bagwell; brother, Nathaniel Bunton and sister, Norma Sudano. I will so miss my Aunt Boo Boo. She was like my second mother. So many fond memories of growing up around her and her family. She's now with my mother. Lucy and Ethel together again.
