Bernie LANCASTER Obituary

Bernie LeRoy Lancaster Walterboro - Mr. Bernie LeRoy Lancaster, 91, of Walterboro, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Colleton Medical Center. He was born on February 13, 1927, in Santa Ana, California, to the late Bernie James and Irenne Harlin Lancaster. He was the middle child of three boys. After high school, he joined the US Navy during World War II. After the war, he joined the US Air Force Reserves and went to Chiropractic School. Upon completing college, he went in active duty in the Air Force where he remained until he retired in 1977 in Charleston, SC. Surviving are: his children, Mary Stutts (Daniel) of Varnville, Teresa Bourne of the home, William Lancaster (Kathy) of Augusta, Georgia, Glenna Yoakam, Laurie Kolodziej, and Nancy Lancaster all of California, and John Lancaster of Utah. There are 12 grandchildren including Kelli Benton of Walterboro who helped take care of him and 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Lancaster of California; sister-in-law, Shirley Kolbus of Mattoon, Illinois, and Brenda Baker (Michael) of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Fentress Lancaster; daughter, Karen Lancaster Busby; granddaughter, Kylie Elizabeth Busby; son-in-law, John Bourne, III; and his brother, Bert Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contribution be made to: The Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
