Bernard Walker Obituary

Bernard Alton Walker, Sr. WALTERBORO - Mr. Bernard Alton Walker, Sr., 92, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday morning, March 20, 2023, at his residence. Born December 26, 1930, in Walterboro, South Carolina, he was the youngest of ten children of the late David Lamar Walker and the late Dora Petit Walker. He served our country faithfully in the United States Air Force having been stationed in Wichita Fall, Texas. He graduated from printing school in Nashville, Tennessee and worked as a type setter, having retired from Press Printing of The Press and Standard of Walterboro. He was a lifelong member of Black Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro. He will always be remembered as a strong and loving family man who devoted his life to his family and was always helping others. A talented woodcraftsman, he enjoyed carving ducks, which are priceless treasures to his family. Bernard was quick to smile and share in laughter and he was also skilled at playing the guitar. Surviving are: his wife of sixty-two years, Mrs. Kathryn Gill Walker; two children, Kathryn Walker O'Quinn and her husband, Mark, of Walterboro, and Bernard A. Walker, Jr. and his wife, Sherri, of Ravenel; four grandchildren, Jacob O'Quinn and his wife, Jackie, Logan O'Quinn, Hannah O'Quinn, and Tyler Walker; two great-grandchildren, Ansley O'Quinn and Karsyn O'Quinn; and a sister, Rebecca Walker. He was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Madelyn O'Quinn; and eight siblings, Cyril Walker, Agnes Walker, Edwin Walker, Emery Walker, Charles Walker, Ray Walker, Carroll Walker and David Walker. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, March 23, 2023, from Black Creek Baptist Church, 4931 Black Creek Road, Walterboro. The Reverend Ron Hanna officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 12:30pm in the church sanctuary. Arrangements by: THE BRICE W.
