Aundra Meroe Obituary

Aundra Saa Meroe TACOMA, WA - MEROE, Aundra Saa, Ph.D, Sociologist, activist, advocate, author. Age 56, died peacefully Friday, February 2, at Franciscan Hospice House in Tacoma, WA, after a long illness. Her daughter, Isobel L. Meroe-Epes and her step-daughter, EmmaGrace Skove-Epes were by her side. Born in Charleston, SC, to Sandra J. and Edward M. Robinson, Aundra "Gigi" attended Summerville Academy, The Bishop's School, and Santa Catalina School as a boarding student. She graduated from Yale University in 1989. At UCLA, she earned two Masters of Arts and a Ph.D in Sociology. Activism, compassion, and deep empathy permeated her work in educational and medical sociology. Dr. Meroe is survived by her daughter, Isobel Livingston Meroe-Epes of Walla Walla, WA; her step-daughter, EmmaGrace Skove-Epes of Brooklyn, NY; her husband, William Morgan Epes of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six beloved aunts and uncles; and more than two dozen first cousins. Dr. Meroe was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rev. Glennie and Pearlie Mae (Williams) Rawls, Rev. Edward and Georgia (Lett) Robinson; parents, Sandra and Edward Robinson; mother- and father-in-law, Carolyn and C. Morgan Epes, Jr.; 11 uncles and aunts; and three first cousins. Aundra counted dozens of close, loving, lifelong friends. Many of these she considered family.
