Anne Surrett Obituary

Anne Kirby Surrett JOHNS ISLAND - Anne Kirby Surrett entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at her home on Seabrook Island, South Carolina, surrounded by her loving family and sweet dog, Ben. Her family invites her friends and family to honor her life on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Grace Church Cathedral, Charleston, South Carolina. Her family will receive guests following the service at a reception at Hanahan Hall in the church. Anne was born August 31, 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia, the first child of William Jackson Kirby and Betty Jean Kirby. Two years later they moved to Charleston, South Carolina and it became home. She proudly attended the University of South Carolina and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Management. She was a loyal Gamecock fan until her final days. She began her career in banking at First National Bank in Columbia, S.C. In 1995, she and her family moved to Winston Salem, N.C. where she continued her career in Wealth Management at Wachovia. In 2004, she became the Pennsylvania Division President for U.S. Trust Company and then spent a year at Citibank Private Bank as a Managing Director in their Private Bank. In 2008, she returned home to Charleston and was a Senior Vice President at Suntrust Bank Wealth Management before rounding out her prestigious career as a Regional Managing Director for Wells Fargo. Throughout her increasingly more responsible roles, Anne was a beloved leader, mentor and advocate for her teams. Anne retired in May 2022 but remained actively involved in her beloved Charleston community, where she sat on the board for Roper St. Francis Foundation, Trident United Way, American Red Cross and One80 Place. She had a passion for excellent food, fabulous wine, and traveling the world with Doug and spending time with her many friend groups. Anne's love for her family, her deep faith and her passion for making those she loved feel uniquely special were core to all her relationships and interactions. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church on Johns Island. Anne is survived by her college sweetheart and husband of 45 years, George Douglas Surrett of Seabook Island, S.C., her daughter, Elizabeth Bailey Surrett of Charlotte, NC, her son, Douglas Jackson Surrett of Seabrook Island, S.C. as well as her steadfast companion, Ben. Anne was preceded in death by both her parents, William Jackson Kirby and Betty Norton Kirby, and her sweet younger sister, Claire Kirby Hughes. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to St. John's Episcopal Church, 3673 Maybank Hwy., Johns Island, SC 29455.
