Anne Katherine Newman Elsey Greenville, SC - Anne Katherine Newman Elsey, age 82, of Taylors, SC, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Anne was born on July 18, 1939, in Sumter, SC, to the late Jack and Eloise Newman. Anne began her career as a kindergarten teacher at St. Francis Episcopal Church. She worked as an interior designer for Patchwork and Interiors before opening her own business. She decorated many homes and businesses in the Greenville area. She was an avid tennis player and book reader. She played bridge with the same ladies for over 40 years, and a member of the Palmetto Investment Club. Anne was a dedicated volunteer for the American Cancer Society and Friends of the Zoo. She was a member of Christ Church, where she served on the Altar Guild and Cooking Ministry. She and her husband, 'Mick' enjoyed there Tuesday night supper club. Anne was a wonderful mother and grandmother, known as Gran. She is survived by her husband, Thurman, of 62 years and her children, 'Art' Thurman Arthur Elsey, III of Charlotte, NC, and Alicia Elsey Sastry and husband, Ravi, of Greenville, SC; five granddaughters, Mary Margaret Elsey Rackett (Hunter), Grace Newman Elsey, Annacie Katherine Sastry, Bronwyn Elsey Sastry and Lydia Arthur Elsey. She is survived by her sister, Vira Jean Newman Parks of Plum Branch, SC, and brother, Daniel Allen Newman of North Charleston, SC. Anne was preceded in death by her brother, James Jackson Newman. She had many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout South Carolina. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022, at 2:00p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, 10 North St., Greenville, SC 29601 with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Anne's memory to The America Cancer Society, 113 Mills Ave., Greenville, SC 29605 or Christ Episcopal Church 10 Church Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
