Alton Godwin Obituary

Alton D. Godwin ST. GEORGE - Alton D. Godwin, 74, of 151 Cherry Lane, St. George, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Roper Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Tuesday at Indian Field United Methodist Church with the Reverends Preston Grimsley and Phil Watry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Troutman, Daniel Folk, Matt Yeager, Shawn Reeves, Matthew Shuler and Paul Shuler. Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM until time of service. Al was born on March 10, 1941 in Oak Grove, Louisiana, a son of the late Admiral Devon and Vera Patterson Godwin. He was a retired supervisor at Bosch Corporation and enjoyed working maintenance at Dorchester Real Estate. He was a charter member of the Calvary Church of the Nazarene in Goose Creek. He was a member of Indian Field United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader, Sunday School teacher and a dedicated member of the Walk to Emmaus group. He enjoyed being a part of the Hardee's breakfast club. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Godwin. Surviving is his wife, Barbara T. Godwin; a son, Dwayne Godwin, Hanahan; a daughter, Debbie Godwin (Ed) Antley, Hanahan and their mother, Mary Godwin; step-children, Tony (Tammy) Way, LaDonne Way (Glenn) Shuler, Lori Way (Dale) Cox, all of St. George; Candy Way (Mark) Munn of Savannah, GA., Babs (Dudley) Patrick, Marty (Laura) Troutman and Ryan Troutman; grandchildren, Adrienne and Jordan Antley; step-grandchildren, Shawn (Amy) Reeves, Stacey (Chris) Owens, Matthew (Samantha), Paul (Lauryn), Hannah and Samuel Shuler; Crystal Hartzog, Kyle and Cody Way; Angel (Daniel) Folk, Lauren (Nic) Cates; Dylan, Joshua, Cameron Munn, Grant and Laurie Ann, Kelly (Matt), Kaitlyn, Harrison, Ryan O'Neal, Shayna, Toby and Hayden; two brothers, Richard (Patsy) Godwin, Aurora, CO and Jerry Richardson; two sisters, Catherine (Charles) Creech and Peggy (Bobby) O'Neal, all of Kilbourn, LA; a special friend, J.P. Jackson. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Lingerfelt and his staff for their special care.
