William Alton "Bill" Beasley
AIKEN, SC - Mr. William Alton "Bill" Beasley, 96, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Friday in Historic Bethany Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III will officiate.
Mr. Beasley was born in Bishopville, SC, a son of the late William K. and Lila Smith Beasley. He moved and grew up in Norway, SC. He graduated from Clemson University in 1939. He had been a resident of Aiken since Friday, February 13, 1942, and was a Farm Agent for the Clemson Extension Office. He was a chairman of the Aiken City Parks Commission for 37 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Norway, SC, a member of the Grange at Shaw's Fork, a member of Aiken First Baptist Church, a director of the 4H clubs, and an organizer of Camp Long activities. He enjoyed square dancing and traveling with his wife Mabel, his many friends, and his beloved dog Sambo.
Bill is survived by two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Thomas Loebsack; nieces, Marguerite (Tim) Bailey; Macie Kimball McCoy, Stephenie (Van) McCoy Hewett ; nephews, Edward (Susan) Wilson, Jr. and Howard (Diane) G. McCoy; 11 great-nieces and nephews; 10 great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel McCoy Beasley; a son, Alton McCoy Beasley; granddaughters Elizabeth Wilson Beasley and Anna Beasley Loebsack; sister Jewell Beasley Wilson; brothers in law, Edward Wilson, Sr., Frank Grohmann McCoy, and Frank McCoy, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 3157, Aiken, SC 29802.
