Thelma "Kate" Cross
Clearwater - Mrs. Thelma Barton "Kate" Cross, 85, of Clearwater, SC, widow of Mr. Layton W. Cross, entered into rest peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018.
Born in Youngtown, OH, the only child of the late Frank W. and Magnolia McHan Barton, she had been a resident of Aiken County, SC, most of her life. She received her Master's in Education from the University of South Carolina while pursuing her teaching career at Clearwater Elementary, that spanned over thirty years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she formerly taught Sunday School. After the death of her husband, she became very fond of playing "Scrabble". She would often play into the late hours of the night with people all over the world.
In addition to her husband and parents, family members include her children, Paul Cross and his wife, Joyce, Aiken, SC, Barry Cross and his wife, Kathy, Simpsonville, SC and James Cross and his wife, Kaaren, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Jason Cross, Shanon Epley, Adam Cross, Matthew Cross, Alexander Cross and his wife, Allyson, Ian Cross and Shelby Kate Cross and great-grandchildren, Taber Epley, Ella Epley and Maximus Cross.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 14, 2018, beginning at 11 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Graniteville, SC, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1 o'clock in the chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
