Sharon MacMillan
JACKSONVILLE, AL - Sharon Enoch MacMillan, 89, passed away on November 13, 2025, at UAB Hospital in Birmingham due to complications from a stroke.
A native of New Jersey, Sharon developed a love of ballet and performing as a child. At the age of sixteen, she was invited to join American Ballet Theatre and become a professional ballerina, first as a member of the Corps de Ballet and later rising to Principal Dancer. Sharon danced and toured internationally with ABT throughout the 1950s, as well as performing with the Metropolitan Opera and on Broadway. After marrying and starting a family, Sharon moved with her family to North Florida in the 1970s. There she continued to share her love of ballet through teaching and regional performance. After a second career in accounting, Sharon retired from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida in the early 2000s. In her retirement, Sharon enjoyed spending time with her family and treasured pets in Florida, South Carolina and Alabama, as well as traveling.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, William J. MacMillan; her parents, Walter J. Enoch and Marie O'Reilly Enoch; sisters, Joan Everett and Mary Ann Boston; and sons-in-law, Carter Osterbind and Steven Kearl.
Survivors include her children, Walter MacMillan and his wife, Amy, Kelly MacMillan Osterbind, Mari MacMillan Kearl, and Tara MacMillan; grandchildren, Timothy Kearl, Reilly Osterbind Kimmerling, Mary Osterbind Moerlins, Walter Osterbind, Thomas Osterbind, Audrey Osterbind and Sharon Osterbind; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Finn, Henry, Lucille, John, Frances, Walter, Minerva, Ruby, and Rocco; and a sister, Diane Kennedy.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
