Mr. Ray Derrick
AIKEN - Mr. Ray Derrick, beloved husband of sixty-six years to Mrs. Helen Flanary Derrick, entered into rest on Thursday, September 14, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Terri Derrick Ergle.
Left to cherish his memory with his wife, Helen is his son, Tommy Derrick (Birgit), of Aiken, SC, his grandchildren, Kirby Brown (Kenny) and Steven Ergle (Marge) and four great-grandchildren, Kaylie Batchelor, Kenleigh Brown, Axl Ergle and Avery Ergle.
Mr. Derrick was born in New Holland, SC to the late Hiram E. and Allie Mae Cook Derrick and lived in Aiken since he was four years old. He was an Aiken High School graduate. Ray retired as the Operations Manager with Aiken Electric Cooperative with 32 years of service where he loved his job. He started camping in 1964, every weekend either at the lake or the beach. He and Helen traveled all over with the Winnebago club, they both traveled the open road on their Harleys, and he loved to fly his 1947 Cessna 120 tail wheel.
Ray met Helen at Millers Skating Rink in 1950 where they skated all the time.
Helen was the LOVE of his life, and his best friend. They were inseparable ....even wore matching outfits most of the time.
Ray LOVED to have all the family together for cookouts at his house around the pool He wanted them weekly.
