Pattie Parks Obituary

Pattie Parks
AIKEN - Pattie (Patsy) Plummer Egerton Parks died Wednesday, October 2, at her home in Aiken with her loving family present. Patsy was born in Louisburg, NC, the oldest child of Pattie Macon Egerton and Frank Nicholas Egerton II. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Paul B. Parks, and their devoted son, Blair Egerton Parks. Her beloved daughters, Gail Lambeth Parks and Charlotte Elizabeth Parks, predeceased her. Also surviving Patsy are her brother, Dr. Frank Nicholas Egerton III of Racine, Wisconsin, and sister The Rev. Charlotte Macon Egerton Waldrop, Asheville, NC. Her nieces Charlotte Katherine Erwin and Ellen Egerton Erwin Rickman, were very close to their aunt Patsy, as were their children Adam and Zachary Sammakia; and Jake and Katie Rickman, nephew David Egerton and niece Rachel Egerton with children Ashley and Andrew also survived their aunt as did several other nieces and nephews and their children. The Parks family nieces and nephews, Betsy, Susan, David, Ellen, Lee, Janet, Martha, and Hal enjoyed a loving relationship with Patsy.
Patsy grew up in Durham, NC, and attended public schools graduating from Durham High School in 1953. She attended Duke University with a major in childhood education. Pasty was an active member of the Aiken community, volunteering as a young adult at the Aiken Adult Development Center teaching basic reading. Devoted to her church, St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, she served for many years as a member and then Director of the St. Thaddeus Altar Guild, and she faithfully participated in church activities. She was popular teacher at Mead Hall School of kindergarten and later second grade children. Even after she retired, Patsy often encountered former students who would greet her by asking if she remember them, and she always did.
Patsy was a graduate of the Clemson University Master Gardener program and inspired her son Blair to also become a Master Gardener. Her backyard garden became known as "Parks Park" which was highlighted in a full page spread in the Augusta Chronicle. Many visitors strolled the paths of her native garden. She was a founding member of the Wildwood Garden Club and later, President of the Regional Garden Club Council. Patsy also found time to be an active member of the Aiken Daughters of the American Revolution and served as the Chapter Regent.
Patsy had an adventurous spirit which led her to travel widely throughout the United States and abroad. Together Patsy and Paul traveled and camped in their travel trailer while taking advantage of kayaking on lakes and rivers. She loved time spent outdoors experiencing all that nature offers including a wide variety of birds and animals.
The funeral service for Patsy will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 8 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Rev. Marshal Jolly, Officiant; and Don Dupee, Organist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will then be held in the Stevenson-McClelland Building.

I have such wonderful memories of my dear aunt Patsy. My earliest memory was of Thanksgiving at her house where the baked my first acorn squash and her apple cake. I loved them!!! She had made a turkey on the table with colorful feathers, I think now from construction paper. I was so impressed!

We spent family trips together to Hilton Head with our cousins and Granny and later she spent some time with me in Montreat alone and then with Paul and Blair and Lyn. We had a lovely time together.

Over the last years, we would talk by phone very often about anything and everything. I will miss our calls and her joyful voice!

Rest in peace, dear Patsy.

Mrs. Parks was my kindergarten teacher in 1970 at Mead Hall.
I dearly loved her . The memories are so vivid . She was kind, patient and the best teacher. Her voice was comforting and she was always smiling. I often ran into her over the years and she never forgot me. I thought the world of her.
I know her family adored her, you just don't meet people like her everyday. I'm thankful to have known her and blessed with the best memories of kindergarten . Mrs. Parks you are with your girls now, what a glorious reunion.
