Patricia Vandegrift Obituary

Patricia Mae (Miller) Vandegrift, daughter of Lyle and Florence (Meese) Miller was born on August 25, 1944 in LeRoy, MN passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025 at her residence with family at her side. Pat, as she was affectionately known, was the fourth of six children having been raised in the LeRoy, Minnesota and Lime Springs/Creso, Iowa farming communities. The summer before her high school senior year, her family relocated to Ewing, NJ where she graduated in 1962 from Ewing High School. After graduation she began what would be her 37-year career with Proctor & Gamble, first in New Jersey and then for the last 5 years in Cincinnati, OH before retiring. A short time after a blind date arranged by her sister-in-law Janis with Allen "Al" Vandegrift, they married on June 6, 1964 and established their life in Ewing, NJ. Early in their 35-year marriage they were blessed with 3 three children. Pat was an avid reader, loved to embroider and was the biggest supporter of her children's school activities and sports. She enjoyed travelling, whether it be by car, airplane or cruise ship; she was fortunate to visit many places over the years but her most cherished memories were the ones visiting family and friends. After retirement in August 1999 and Al's sudden passing a month later, Pat decided in 2004 to move one last time from Amelia, Ohio to North Augusta, SC to spend more time with her children and grandchildren and then most recently with her two great-grandchildren. Pat is survived by her children Jeanne (John) Lowther of Aiken, SC; Chris Nickels of New Ellenton, SC and Scott (Angela) Vandegrift of North Augusta, SC; grandchildren Amanda (Chris) Byrd of Camden, SC; Shannon Lowther (Tony Glanton Jr) of Aiken, SC; Robert Nickels (his father Jan) of Hamilton, OH; Kyle Vandegrift of Greenville, SC; Nathan Vandegrift (Ivanna Vasquez) of Columbia, SC; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Kennedy Byrd of Camden, SC along with her sister Betty (Dean) Fausnaugh of Laurel, MT and sister-in-law Janis Miller of Spring Valley, MN and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Richard, Jim and Roy Miller, sister Joyce Ervin, brother-in-law Edward Ervin and sister-in law Judy Miller. A celebration of Pat's life will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025 at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC, with family visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The Reverend Barry T. Antley will officiate the services at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands of Aiken (www.helpinghandsaiken.org) or Gentiva Hospice.
