Mavis Pierce Obituary

Mavis "Maxine" Nesmith Pierce, age 93, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of many family members.

Born on July 1, 1932, to George and Gladys Atkins NeSmith, Maxine lived a life deeply rooted in faith, love, and devotion to her family. Her relationship with the Lord was the foundation of her life and guided the way she loved and served others.

She was a faithful and active member of Levels Baptist Church, where she joyfully expressed her faith, especially through her love of singing.

Family was the center of Maxine's heart and the greatest joy of her life. She was a loving mother to Billy Pierce (Sandra), Judy Wilson (Ken, who preceded her in death one month ago), and Barry Pierce (Donna). She was a proud and devoted "Nanny" / "Granny" to Stacey Pierce (Julie Weldon), Kerianne Wilson (who preceded her in death in 2020), Kendra Englade (Wayne), Brandon Pierce (Lauren), Lori Beth Frost (Clay), and Heather Byrd (Justin). Her love extended deeply to her many great-grandchildren, Chloe, Kayden, Clayton, Landon, Braidon, Asher, Emory, Jared, Brooklyn, Isla, and Rivers - each of whom held a special place in her heart and brought her tremendous joy.

Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Gene Pierce, Sr., whom she married at the age of fifteen and who remained the love of her life, as well as all of her siblings.

Her life was marked by quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and unwavering faith.

Though her family grieves her passing, they find peace in knowing that Maxine's faith carried her safely home. Her life was a beautiful testimony of love, devotion, and trust in the Lord.

The legacy she leaves behind lives on in the family she cherished, the faith she faithfully lived, and the countless lives she touched with kindness, grace, and song.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

The family will greet friends on Friday, February 27, 2026, beginning at noon at Levels Baptist Church, Aiken, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1 o'clock at the church. Pastor Clint Bartlett will officiate.
