Mary Hall Obituary

Mary Ann Hall
LEESVILLE - Mary Ann Fortson Hall was born on January 5, 1939, to Julien and Josephine Fortson, in Elberton, Georgia. Her childhood in that small town has been described as idyllic. Mary Ann grew up as a second child with two sisters and a baby brother. She graduated from Elberton High School in 1957, where she played the oboe, and her favorite club was Future Homemakers of America. After high school, she trained to be an x-ray technician and worked at a hospital in Anderson, SC. God had great plans for her in Anderson. It was there she went on a blind date and met her prince charming. Coy was the other girl's date, but not for long. Coy and Mary Ann were married on February 14, 1960. It was a beautiful Valentine's Day wedding with her sisters as her bridesmaids.
About a year later, Coy and Mary Ann welcomed their first child and only daughter, and moved to Aiken, SC. In the years to follow, they proudly welcomed their two sons. Mary Ann's dream of being a homemaker was in full swing. Chatham Street was a great place to raise a family! She was a devoted wife and mother. She taught in church, was a leader in scout troops, and served in many capacities. She also canned food as she and Coy gardened together. Being home to raise her children and support her husband was a top priority. When her children were much older, Mary Ann started her career at SmithKline Beecham, where she worked until her retirement. Mary Ann and Coy spent their retirement years in their home on Lake Murray. It was a fresh start with new neighbors, friendships, and new churches. They enjoyed hosting family gatherings and taking grandchildren out on the pontoon or watching them jump from the dock or go down the slide into the lake. They also enjoyed serving others through the food pantry at First Calvary Baptist Church. In recent years, they downsized and lived in Lexington.
On March 1, 2023, Mary Ann breathed her last breath on earth and her next breath in Heaven. She passed early in the morning, getting to see her first sunrise from Heaven. She was greeted by the Jesus that she taught her three children to love. While our hearts are broken, we are comforted by knowing that we will see her again. Her true life is just beginning!
She is survived by her husband of sixty-three years, Coy Thomas Hall, her three children, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Hall Singleton, Coy Thomas Hall, Jr (Kelly), and Andrew Fulton Hall (Denise) and eight grandchildren, Juliana Williams (Brandon), Caroline Anderson, Abigail Zimmerman (Stewart), Drew Hall, Will Hall, Allison Hall, Reagan Hall, Natalie Hall, and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger sister, Judith Fortson and brother, Joda Fortson.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, Julien and Josephine Fortson, her sister, Jane Fortson Childs, and her granddaughter, Olivia Danielle Singleton.
The family will welcome visitors on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at First Calvary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Calvary Baptist Church, 2320 Cedar Grove Rd. , Leesville SC 29070.
