Margaret Jansen Steed
JACKSON - Graveside Services for Margaret Jansen Steed, 95, who entered into rest May 15, 2025, and Leonard Beasley, Steed, Jr., 96, who entered into rest December 22, 2023, will be conducted Wednesday morning, May 28, 2025, at 11 o'clock in Jackson Memorial Park, Dr. Mark Riser and Rev. Kevin Liles officiating.
Mrs. Steed was born March 25, 1930, in Augusta, GA to the late Albert Herman and Gladys Maddox Jansen; both of whom operated McGown Printing Co. The family resided on Pope Avenue and attended Woodlawn Baptist, with Mrs. Steed graduating from Tubman High School. Following graduation Mrs. Steed worked as a telephone switchboard operator until marrying L. B. Steed Jr. (Staff Sargent USMC) on November 24, 1950. After post stationing with the Marine Corps the couple settled in Jackson, with Mrs. Steed worked as a secretary at Jackson Elementary school, in the time office at the Savanah River Site, and with her husband operating the Jackson Drag Strip. Following retirement Mrs. Steed enjoyed gardening and "killing weeds", traveling to Washington DC to visit military monuments, and watching her birds and squirrels while sitting in her sun-room with her adopted kitten "Fatso". Mrs. Steed was a member and faithful worshiper at Bethel Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Beasley Steed, Jr.; son, Leonard Mark Steed; granddaughter, Laurie Ann Proctor; brother, Albert Herman Jansen, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Kim Jansen Steed; great-grandchildren, Thomas Proctor and Brooklyn Proctor; and sister, Rosemary Helen Jansen Hooks.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Enhabit Home Health for providing care for both Mr. and Mrs. Steed, and to Bonita Smith for providing care to Mrs. Steed.
