Lorie Storey Obituary

Mrs. Lorie "Nonnie" Hite Powell Storey, age 102, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, service, and love that spanned more than a century.

Born in Aiken, South Carolina, to the late Yancy L. Hite and Maggie Lee Ripley Hite, Mrs. Storey lived a life marked by devotion-to her family, her church, and her community. She worked for many years with Regal Textiles in Johnston, South Carolina, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kind spirit.

A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Storey was a founding member of Marion Street Baptist Church in Aiken and Hillview Baptist Church in Graniteville, where she faithfully served as a member of the Women's Missionary Union. At Marion Street Baptist Church, she lovingly taught Primary Sunday School and Girls in Action, touching countless young lives with her gentle guidance and Christian example.

Family was the heart of Mrs. Storey's life. She found great joy in cooking for those she loved, and during Wednesday night church suppers. Her multi-layered chocolate cake was legendary and remains a cherished family memory. She also enjoyed bowling with the women's league every Tuesday and had a spirit for adventure, traveling extensively, hosting Greyhound bus tours, and taking several cruises throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Milledge Elbert Powell and C. W. Storey; her daughter, Betty Jean Powell Timmerman; her son, Robert Perry Powell; her sister, Helen Pearl Cochran; and her brothers, Earl Horace Hite, Sr., Theodore "Dosie" Hite, and Y. L. Hite.

Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren, Bobbi Timmerman Hyde (Keith), Kimberly Timmerman Kirkendohl (Sam), Jennifer Nicole Powell, and Rebekah Katelyn Powell Cates (Nicholas); her great-grandchildren, Aaron Peyton Fincher (Kelly), Lindsey Michelle Finlay (Tommy), Davis Brennan Kirkendohl, Kamden Eli Cates, Kellen Hill Kirkendohl, Brantley Hank Kirkendohl, Joshua Noah Kirkendohl, Ryan Keith Hyde (Liza), and Adrienne Elizabeth Rector (Christopher); and her great-great-grandchildren, Scott Hyde, Wesley Hyde, Andrew Hyde, Matthew Rector, and Elizabeth Rector.

The family will greet friends on Thursday, January 29, 2026, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, South Carolina 29829. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike McAlpin officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens, Aiken, South Carolina.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Fincher, Tommy Grande, Davis Kirkendohl, Earl Horace "Bubba" Hite, Jr, and Joshua Aaron Hughes.

Mrs. Storey will be remembered as a loving mother, devoted grandmother, faithful servant of God, and a woman whose warmth, generosity, and joy made every gathering brighter.

I am so saddened and send my sincerest condolences to the family. I had known her, the brothers and daughter over many years and did not known she had been still living these many years. I had gone to church with her as a boy, worked with her at Riegel Textile during college years, and known one grandson. She had lived a full and inspiring life. my best regards to her family.
