Lloyd Goodwin Obituary

Early Friday morning, May 16, 2025, "the valley" lost one of its legends, Mr. Lloyd Thomas Goodwin, 88, affectionately known as "Red", who was a devoted husband to Lynn Ledbetter Goodwin for the past fifty-seven years. Red always lived life to the fullest. Nothing made him happier than loading up his motorhome and heading to a NASCAR race, especially Talladega Super Speedway. Always the life of the party. Red knew countless jokes and loved to share them. Red and the family traveled far and wide during his career as an Industrial Contractor. He took great pride in each job he undertook and played just as hard as he worked! The family will greet friends on Monday, May 19, 2025, from 5 until 8 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 11 o'clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral and Cremation Service. Pastor Jody Padgett will officiate. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Bath, SC. Larry Goodwin, Jr., Matthew Goodwin, Tommy South, Alexander Goodwin, Randy Spradley, and Johnny Eversoll will be pallbearers. Red's buddies from the "Has Been Club," Reid Scott and Richard Ray, will serve as honorary pallbearers. Along with his wife, Red is loved, missed and his memory will remain eternal in the hearts of his children, Larry (Dana) Goodwin, Sr., Brenda (Richard) Ray, Lloyd "Shorty" (Nancy) Goodwin, Michelle (Tommy) South and Matthew Wesley Adam (Lilian) Goodwin, sister, Kathy Munday, grandchildren, Sheri (Scott) Bailey, Larry (Michelle) Goodwin, Jr., Alexander Goodwin, Candice Petrea, Christa (Randall) Hooge, Hope (Kyle) Anderson and Hannah Goodwin, great-grandchildren, Kopper Bailey, Landry Goodwin, Michaela Goodwin, Blayne Goodwin, Courtney Vincent, Layloni Hooge, Veda Hooge, Kadence Anderson, Kaleb Anderson, Aria Brower, Gianna Brower and Niyha Goodwin, his faithful companion, Buddy, as well as extended family members and friends. Red was preceded in death by a son, Tracy Len Goodwin, and nine siblings. Considering his love for animals, mainly his faithful companion Buddy, memorials in memory of Red may be directed to the Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare. (www.letlovelive.org) The following as reflections from Lynn concerning the relationship that Red had with his children. Larry Goodwin, Sr. You were a real hero during the last days of your dad's life. You stepped up and took care of your dad around the clock. I am so grateful for the support and love you showed to him. Brenda Goodwin Ray. Nothing made him happier than calling you, It did not matter if it was 3 o'clock in the morning, you answered. Lloyd T. "Shorty" Goodwin, Jr. Thanks for coming to help your dad when he needed you, When you came to watch the races with him on Sunday, it made him so very happy. Michelle Goodwin South, He was so proud of you. We enjoyed every minute of all the wonderful holidays you took us on. You taught him so much, even though you did not realize it. He loved you so very much. Matthew Wesley Adam Goodwin, he adored you. He loved you so very much. You were his shining star. Your baseball games made him so very proud. Every homerun, and there were many, amazed him. Tommy South (Son-in-law), Always remember the conversation you had with Red. Lastly and certainly not least, Lynn Ledbetter Goodwin. I was with you until you took your last breath. A promise that we made to each other. Fifty-seven years of love and tears. Holding your hand as we promised. May 18, 2025

From Bob Taylor, 3201 Shamrock Rd. Hillsborough, N. C. 27278. Cell: 910-520-0082. I have been friends with "Big Red" since the 60´ S. We lived in Aiken 7 years during that period. Big Red and I worked together with Daniel´s Construction Company. We had a real good relationship. Even after we retired we maintained our friendship. I have visited Big Red and his wonderful wife at their home many times. Our last visit was either 2 or 3 years ago at his and his Wife´s home. We enjoyed talking about the old days. Big Red is the last of my old friends. I will never have another friend like Big Red. He is one of a kind. My wife Linda and I Hope to continue visiting with Lynn. I talked to Shorty, last Thursday, Big Reds Son on Big Red´s cell phone and learned about Big Reds condition. I thank "Shorty" for taking the call. I also am requesting Lynn give me a call @ 910-520-0082 when she can. I understand her phone number has changed so I can not call. Big Reds phone is not answering anymore. I regret we can not make the funeral because of temporary health issue I have.
God bless Big Red, Lynn and entire family. Big Red can not be replaced. Thanks with love: Linda and Bob
