Jimmy Powell, Sr.
WARRENVILLE - Mr. Jimmy Powell, Sr, 76, beloved husband of Mrs. Debbie Mullins Powell, passed away suddenly at Aiken Regional Medical Center during emergency surgery on Thursday, August 19, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Respress E. Powell, Jr. "Sarge" and sisters: June Powell Williams, Estelle Powell, Nancy Redd, Margaret Pittman, and Virginia Johnson.
Born April 3, 1945 in Augusta, Georgia's Harrisburg neighborhood to which he was proud to tell anyone he was from. He was the son of the late Respress E. and Ethel Hilson Powell. Mr. Powell was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years and he was the Postmaster at Langley until his retirement in 2005. After retirement he worked with Security Forces as a supervisor of security patrol at Aiken's southside Walmart and for Aiken County Recycling Drop-off Center. He was a past member of the National Association of Postmasters of the United States, the National League of Postmasters , a member of Aiken County Area 3 School Advisory Board of Education and the Aiken County Planning and Zoning Board. Mr. Powell loved sports and was a youth basketball and baseball coach at Gregg Park Civic Center from 1990-1996. He loved his Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.
Left to cherish his memory with his wife are his children: Bethany Williamson (Josh), Jennifer Hutto (Todd), Jimmy Powell, Jr. - J.J and Andrew; his bonus children: Chris Spires (Joy) and Heather Spires (Kane); a very special nephew, Frank T. Neilan and niece, Sandra Burke; grandchildren: Andria, Taylor, Mayson, Landen, Ben, Matthew, Camden; bonus grandchildren that he loved as his own:,Nicholas, Georgia, Buddy, Justin, Maggie, Abi, and Kaz; great grands:Ethan, Liam, and Channing.
